My family is going to visit Turkey on thanksgiving. How should we be dressing?

bring some warm cloths. Temps vary with the area. Expect anywhere from 8 to 16 C at mid day or 47 to 61 F. I got that from a guide book.

In most of Turkey it is very common to wear the same kind of cloths that people in Europe wear. If you plan to visit a Mosque, dress appropriately. Meaning , cover up.

And if you are just pulling my leg, then dress your turkey with tin foil to keep it from burning on top.

With a wool coat and leather boots (or the appropriate vegan alternative), as it's rainy and chilly in Turkey in November.

As for the turkey dinner in Turkey, the Hilton in Istanbul's Harbiye district does an all-you-can-eat buffet for 65 YTL. You gotta go. Having someone else cook the dinner and do all the dishes is just gravy. ;-)

Come as you are. Happy thanksgiving day to you.

#1, Thanksgiving is *not* a Christian holiday. It's North American, so I doubt Christian Turkish citizens celebrate on a regular basis. I am Turkish and had a Thanksgiving dinner as an iftar once.

Also, if you were wearing a mini-skirt in Istanbul, you would attract a lot of unwanted attention. I would cover at least down past your knees if you want to fit in.

"They will beat you if you wear a mini-skirt" is a myth. You can wear quite liberally. But thanksgiving time Turkey may be cold. For example, Istanbul's weather is comparable to that of Washington, DC. But it is much colder inland. But quite sunny and warm on the South coast.
If you go to the provinces, dress modestly. Too much revealing cloths might mean "easy woman" to the villagers who are looking for a one-night-stand with tourists.
Turkey is nice and hospitable to foreigners. Enjoy it.

Whatever you want. Especially if you are going to visit a large city.

Depends on where you are going but they allow tourists to dress like the country they are from, check with tourism boards on Turkey. My friend goes there all the time and she dresses like normal.

Many turks in the net dress as western, the coat and tie. I think they are westernized contrary to what we read in story that they wear turbans, with blades on waist. loose tousers, ready for war.

in Turkey we don't celebrate thanksgiving so it doesn't matter what you wear, just wear whatever you want, but it may be cold in november.!some christian citizens of Turkey only celebrate it and they don't wear special dresses, just everyway-dressing,the modern european style...

November is already cold there. If you go south there is very mild weather. You need to take your winter clothes or some light jackets.

Abercrombie & Fitch is really popular in Turkey and people think you are really cool if you dress in it. So I would get a lot of Abercrombie stuff. lol.

Do not wear mini skirts unless you are going somewhere which is sea side!!!!!

People stare at you like you are an alien. Guys start to follow you till you actually REACT!!!!

But in Antalya or i don't know where mini skirts are ok, not in Ankara though!

One thing is almost for sure, 85% of the places you go in Turkey will be cold at Thanksgiving, there might even be snow but it is unlikely. Bring a coat, hat and boots just in case. Here is a link where you can check the weather closer to your trip, get the extended forecast, then decide what to pack, how is that?
http://weather.yahoo.com/forecast/TUXX0014.html
as far as culturally, you can wear whatever you would be comfortable wearing at home. By the way, a lot of the big hotels do a Thanksgiving dinner if you are interested, the Ceylan, Marmara, and Four Seasons would be good bets. And the Marmara Hotel will cook a turkey for you to go with all the trimmings for about $10 a pound if you call them 4 days in advance if you can't live without a traditional Thanksgiving.

Charmed
Dress normally.Like everyday,we are not aliens,don't worry:::))))))

Lance
With a little spice I would imagine. Don't forget to get a ''leg up'' on the competition by booking your coup early.
