Need to ride 1350miles in 2 days!?

I'm planning a motorbike trip to Norway in May, I'm going to ride across France, Belgium, Holland, Germany then up into Denmark, take the bridge from Copenhagen to Malmo and then along the West coast of Sweden to Norway. My first calculations suggested about 550 miles per day. EASY. Now I've worked out its 675 miles per day! Not so easy. Any suggestions/advice much appreciated(other than "take 3 days")?

You are a bit faster off driving through Denmark and taking a 15 minute ferry Helsingör-Helsingborg instead of the bridge. The west coast of Sweden has not that much to offer.

Remember that roads are getting slow in Norway from Oslo on because of the mountains, even 500 miles a day is too much there.

RM
If you averaged 57 miles per hour, it would take 12 hours straight to cover 675 miles. It's highly unlikely you'll average that, taking into account stops, towns and villages, border crossings and ferries, etc.

It's more likely you'll average somewhere around 40mph, so it'll take almost 17 hours each day just driving - can't be done, or shouldn't be done. Hate to say it, you do need to take 3 days!

Those countries in May. You do realise that it could rain continually for those 2 days don't you?

I applaud your youthful enthusiasm but I think you are being slightly unrealistic, unless you are a road tester for BIKE magazine or something. Are you doing it for the challenge?

ps I hope you are not doing it on a GS with those "gay" aluminium panniers because that would be boring.

Mental Mickey
Jeremy Clarkson took that route in BBCs Top Gear in one of their frequent "races". As I recall he ended up stopping for the night just outside of Copenhagen, but he did do it inside the two days, so it is definately possible - assuming that you are doing it as he did - a "race" and don't plan on sightseeing, just taking a break at a petrol station and grabbing a cup of coffee. I don't think it is recommended by any sane doctor. Clarkson has well-known back problems, but I wouldn't wish that kind of long-distance trip on anyone.

Personally, I'd rather do what the Hamster and Captain Slow did and take the passenger ferry across from Newcastle to Norway (with your motorbike) and do the 24hr crossing in luxury!

well you wont be doing much site seeing.it would depend on the speed limits and how quick you want to get there.and very important what you are riding.it can drain you mentally and physicly doing 500 miles a day on some motorbikes and thats just the first day backing up for a second day is a bloody hell of a lot harder.2000k's in australia is nothing here in australia truck drivers leave today and tommorrow there pulling into a city 2000 k's away(i didn't say it was legal)a lot of ppl wouldn't even blink an eye lid at driving 2000 k's in 2 days here,a motorbike is a little bit different though.right bike what your asking is a walk in the park, wrong bike take the 3 days mate save the 2 day trip for the trip home.it's always quicker going home it's downhill.hahahalol.old aussie joke.
to be honest mate the roads they have there i'd take a hand full of pills (vit.b of cause anything else is illegal here.lol)and go straight through, coupla stops for a nicer big pot of black coffee.but like i said over here 2000ks is just around the corner.**** man me and the old man used to drive a 400k round trip just to have a beer for a couple of hours.and we used to do that at least once a week
57 miles an hour hahahaahhaa no offense but any bike worth being or car should be able to sit on 100mph all day.you need to get out of your sphere and have a look here.no offense.
i agree with eccy boy i'm jealous.

if you have not started yet, you will never get a finish. Start first you will get all the answers along the way. Planning is better that you have done a lot, as seen from your question

foggy
you should be able to do it easy,i rode from cambridge to la rochelle in south west france in a day , and my parents have done andorra to calais in a day ,...even easier if you ride at 100 mph which in my experiance is pretty easy to do in europe ... good luck sounds like a good trip to me.....

Take the three days, I took my bike round Norway, through Finland and down through sweeden, the whole thing was great because I took my time, there is no point riding all that way if your not going to take time and enjoy it. It took me three weeks and was worth it, I love to ride but getting the chance to stop and sit a while with some of the greatest views in teh world is priceless, if you must do it in the 2 days then the only answer is up early and bed late, or perhaps check if you can get the train some of the way although with a short journey the load/unload would probably negate any time you would save.

karen's revenge
rather u than me !!! just make sure u get plenty of rest on the night time, and don't drive when u are tired ! even if that means drinking coffee til u feel like your teeth are gonna float.... just be careful.

Cannot be done, unless you fly, or drive 24hours which would be dangerous.
