The BF and I are thinking of going away next summer, possibly to the South of France.
Does anyone know of good places to stay? That are not too expensive??? We are only students!
We would like a villa but I think they are too costly?
Somewhere that isn't too popular, on the coast, and not too far from an airport.

Aix en Provence. Student middle sized city ( approx 200 000 inhabitants). Close to Marseille. Not too far from coast (bout 30-40 mins drive). Very pretty. Not very touristic so you won't get the crowd. |

All of the Med coast is popular in the summer !
The Western part (Languedoc-Rousillon) is cheaper, quieter and has good beaches.
It is also well served by low cost airlines to Girona (60kms from the border), Perpignan, Carcassonne, Beziers, Montpellier, Nimes and Marseille.
You may find B&B to be cheaper than a villa, but still offering facilities such as a pool.

We stayed just a few kilometres from St Tropez in a small village called Pampelonne. Too expensive to stay in the celebrities fave place but close enough to visit for the day. Also visited a beautiful village called Ramatuelle. I have heard that St Maxime is great too. |

La Rochelle airport is sort of midway down on the atlantic coast, we have been to the atlantic coast of France for the past 4 years running and have had a fabulous time. There are all sorts of accommodation types available, and can be really cheap. Try Logis de France recommended hotels/b&b's/guest houses (it's a bit like the AA recommendation over here) they are reasonably priced well kept in often stunning locations. Try to avoid the cote d'azur are as it's expensive if you are on a budget. |
