it is sad one policeman to kill one teenager.. as our minister told in democracy noone murder can forgive. i think that it is fault by policeman.. i think that even the boy was agreessive the bahaviour of policeman was stupid. the police can't killed anyone!! greece from thrace until crete is in fires..
i support the demonstations against police but not the damages to shops or to cars or the fact that now 10 policemen are in hospital. |

I think that these last events could have been avoided if there was proper education, both in the way parents bring up their children and the way policemen are trained. I don't think that the poor teenager's behaviour was ok, but what the policeman did was totally unacceptable as was also the chaotic behaviour of the anarchists. Frankly, these days it is more evident than ever what a mess our country is in.
Anyway, I am very sorry for the death of the young kid. No matter how bad his behaviour might had been he didn't deserve to die... |

The police is only capable of bullying and killing kids who are out clubbing. When they actually destroy things, they can't protect us or arrest anyone. That is the truth.
The murder of the boy was the cop's fault, and it was not even police business or anything, they just had a verbal fight and the cop shot him. As for the riots, they are always supposed to be "the worst ever" when they happen. The problem is that now the police does not do anything to stop it, apart from standing there throwing crying gas, and making the anarchists more mad. They just don't know how to arrest people without killing them and they don't act professionally. |

I can't believe my eyes!
Some users find excuses for this terrible event, excuses for this tragic!
To shift the blame to the poor boy's parents, that is something really insane and extra senseless! Just imagine how that people feel now! Their precious child to end his life like this! To be killed by the one who's job is to serve and protect! And even to pay taxes for them!
Or to minimize the problem because "that is something that happens in every other country"?
There is NO EXCUSE for murder!!!
Even if the boy was making provocations, or trowing Molotov's, still the police can't judge him, the court is the only authorized to find him guilty or not! The police is not a executioner!
I'm honestly sorry that this things happened, my sincerely sympathy to the boy's family and to all who are affected with this calamity!
edit>
Vasilka, it seems that not only 14-16 years old children are there, but many adults too (including the inteligence). |

too much corruption and not enough solutions for its citizens. while both parents are out working because the greek government is full of corruption and taking advantage of its citizens, their children are home alone and are more likely to succumb to peer pressure by negative influences. |

I am sad for Greece right now. It sounds like a mess. The only reports I have heard stated that the kids were throwing rocks and attempting to injure the policemen, then the policemen retaliated. If this is true, then I would say it is the fault of the kid.
However, I can't say for sure, because who knows what the policemen tell the media to avoid getting in trouble. |

Iam afraid..between...vasilikis answer and links answer....both are spot on..and tolia ....finishes it off with what happedn to us...INDEED what happend to us not only in greece but just about evey major democratic country around the world? do i have to remide every body of what happedn in france just over a year ago..with the arab boys beign shot.. rember thier riots..just another excuse political parties send out thier (rent a crowd) to creat havoc to buy cheap votes.(some times with a human toll) for the next elections or forced elections depending on what country or system that country is on.. TRUE umeployement the lack of sufficent and adeqaute life style...where a family has not tasted the taste of meat for 3 months or more living or the bare neseisistys..your body needs sufficent nurishment to function as a democratic practioner of each ones country..prices are gone sky high for even those bare necitiys ..every individaul needs a 3 healthy meals a day with sufficent clothing and medical attention with good infrastucter to service the comunitiy.. WE are not all CRIMINAL MINDED a lot of us suffer in silence its only the few bad seeds that do the damage to the rest of the community. THERE IS TOO MUCH EMPHASIES PUT ON POLICIN THESE DAYS and not just in greece but every where.when i was growign up the police man was respected ...BUT if some one who is working for some extra euros is not goignt og et bashed or shot or kicked to death..they will shoot ,but we should not employ people with no esxperince of policing ..POLICING ALSO USES ..COMMON SENSE..but when a man puts on a uniform hegoes in to a trance of superman mode..and when u give him a batton or GUN even..then he is a god..FOR THAT SPLIT SECOND but that split second takes a life.. and we end up where we are now.but who are the police really protecting really?and yes the kid should have been home..but look at any time we see kid out there as late as 3pm..society as tolia says has faded away the parents either dont care are self absorbed or the laws dont allow them to discipline thier children any more..and the childrean know this thats the frighteign thing about this....BUT I ASK YOU ....WHY why why did the INTERIOR MINISTER RESING??? ...if he was responsible for the infrastucture of the policing then he SHOULD STAY ON AND CORRECTT THIS ..then after the correction thier should be a judicial inquiry why this happend and if he is found neglegent..then he must be resinged or prosecuted as the findings relate... NOT PUTTIGN HIS TAIL BETWEEN HIS LEGS AND START RUNNING..becuse this is the formula the goverments use these days so the PARTY CAN STILL STAY POPULAR OR IN GOVERMENT..which means ..ALL OF THIS IS THE CURRENT GOVERMENTS ...FAULT .......THE GOVERMENT LIKES TO PULL THE WOOL OVER OUR EYES AT TIMES LIKE THIS TO SAVE THIER OWN SKIN..BUT ITS NOT THE PARTY THATS AT FAULT ITS THE PEOPLE WHO GOVERN IT..WE NEED BETTER PEOPLE FOR PEOPLES INTREST NOT FOR THIER OWN INTREST ONLY.. |

I am afraid that in this case the policeman or in fact the "special guard" was responsible. Special guards are poorly trained and low paid poilicemen that are mainly for the purpose of guarding places (they weren't even considered as policemen until recently). Also policemen are cowards when it comes to real troublemakers and let out their anger to unlucky average joes that they tend to find as easy targets, so irrelevant people passing by usually pay the price (it happened many times before).
Some kids told them a couple of words and threw a bottle towards them, then the guards moved towards their side and one told "let me show you what i will do to you dipsh@its" and started shooting with one bullet killing a 15 year old kid by hitting it in the stomach. At this point even whether the kid was part of that group is debatable. This is according to various testimonies. Fact is that according to a video and testimonies together they appeared to just turn around and leave afterwards, they didn't tried to help the kid at all or even ask for help. Also the kids definitely weren't a threat to him as they were leaving, and the guards were the ones that approached the kids, with one of them shooting and swearing.
And unfortunately now you see anarchists and political parties try to benefit from that tragedy, each for their own reasons. |

some aliti (punk) throws rocks and molotovs at police and riots throughout athens and thessaloniki, injuring people and destroying peoples' businesses and property and a cop shoots him out of self-defense and we are suppose to feel sorry for them?!?!?! they should shoot all those idiots for behaving like animals.
first they riot in the soccer stadiums, now they go out onto the streets. its about time the police woke up and started taking control of these animals and put them all in jail where they belong. |

this is the new-modern Greek society and government we should blame
a society that urges16 years old boys to be anarchists
a society that makes policemen to be confused about their duty
it is for us all to blame
cause we lost the meaning of living in democracy and respect it
cause we lost the meaning of living in a society and protect it
cause we lost the meaning of developing the institutions and improve them
we used to be a solid, healthy, caring society
what happened to us?? |
