Make sure you go to the Oudezijdse Achterburgwal (street), which is dead centre Red light district or as we Dutch call it "de Wallen". Make sure you go thru side street too. You just got to have a look. There are also quite some nice pubs and cafe's there, most of which will broadcast (British) sports-events if on.
Seeing you only got one night, its a bit much to run around the city, so have a look, have a beer and enjoy the (usually) relaxed atmosphere.

Seriously you really must spend it in the Red Light area.

Its a must! You havnt BEEN to Amsterdam if you havnt been there!
Its an eye opener, have a good time and come home with the great memories.

Where do I begin lol. First off have a nice pint of Amstel in one of the many cafe's. Then visit the s*x museum situated on the main street ,this is an eye opener !! Then maybe a little happy backy just to chill you. Then visit the red light district, but watch your back for the pimp's and drug dealers they aren't the friendliest of people lol :)

Sauna... with this weather, including the massage :D (stone massage/thai massage/Japanese massage) you must be tired...
and then take some nice rose and have a nice dinner somewhere.

Don't want to be rude... but what's wrong with you people massively recommending the red light district? It's a sad and tacky place.

I'm an Amsterdam girl and i'd love to give you some proper tips, but need to know a bit more about you interests, what food you like, do you like clubbing or do you prefer bars and pubs and what date will you be there. Please feel free to email me and i'll help out.

go to the reds and get stoned & a bit pissed... then visit the amazing banana bar and then go whoring. mind out for the blue lights... they are tranny's!

there are great bars and clubs check out Rembrandtplein (a square with bars and clubs) also nice to have a tour at the canals.
of-course the redlight-district and bananabar there's a fantastic chinese restaurant close to the redlightdistrict called Nam Kee check that out if you want the real/original chinese food every one knows that place.
