Problems with turkish sim cards?

I'm told that you have to register your phone in Turkey to buy a Turkish sim card or it will be blocked. is this true in practice? the official line seems to be yes but in practice, who knows? I don't

Yes, my phone just got blocked two weeks ago. It wasn't my sim cart- which is Turkish and registered before but the device itself which was bought abroad.

You have to make sure your passport gets stamped and with your passport at arrival, as soon as you get to customs, ask the police what you are supposed to do.

Qu'est ce que tu pense?
It's true. The same situation happened to me with my phone last year.

yes that's true, I cant use my mobile phone which I brought from England, I advice you to get your phone unlocked before entering Türkiye as I can`t get mine unlocked now which means you can`t even register the phone without unlocking it first...

My girlfriend lives in Holland, and uses a simcard(which is registered to my name) on her phone. There has been no problems.

well from my knowledge if you bringing a gsm phone to Turkey you need to get it approved once u get off the plane (you can ask its a desk you go and they stamp your passport so u can use it, if you dont do it then after 2 weeks your phone will get locked automatically where its annoying)once u get it stamped they get your mei # from your phone and allow u to use it in Turkey:) then u purchase phonecards AKA sim cards then u use it:) this whole passport stamping came cause alota people used to bring in cheap phones & sell them for $$. so they're tryin to make a system i guess:)
i hope i helped?

Yes when bringing a uk phone to turkey and using it with a turkish sim it needs to be registered with customs there is a big charge and you can only do one telephone per passport per year. But there is certain phones they can open illeaglly in the phone shops but there only certain phones for example mine samsung e900 they can do for 60lira or a samsung d500,d600 i know for sure they can do these.

Your phone will work for about 15 days if you do not register it. After that, they will block your phone from working with a Turkish sim. This is encourage people to buy phones inside Turkey and boost the economy.

yes it is true. i have read alot about this on the trip advisor forum. you have to get your phone registered at a phone shop (used to be customs but they gave you a form to take to phone shop) otherwise when you put the turkish sim in your phone it will block the phone not just the sim. advice is to buy a cheap phone out there.
