Send Tony Blair in! He'll pass so many laws that driving will be so much of a hassle that people will walk instead...there... problem solved. |

Turkey is busy with other things so health, education systems are their last worries... about road safety, i lost 2 people very close to me in a car accident.. as you said, they were not driving fast, they were not drunk and they were also following the rules... the accident happened coz of the little stones on the road which is called "mıcır" ! her zamanın bahanesi "ödenek yok" masalıyla daha kaç kişiyi kurban edeceğiz ! i agree with you Turkish roads are terrible... |

With real punishments i believe.
As an example, think of someone drives drunk and people dies because of an accident caused by him. That person shouldn't get out with a license ban and some fines. That person should be arrested and put in a murder trial.because that is not an accident.
If these people are not punished, these problems will never end. |

first we need to educate people
second punishment should be harsher
PS are you still here wasting your time ?
are you for real?
that's the question you asked us. I'm just repeating. |

Most of our problems would be solved if we applied our laws appropriately and punish all offenders severely. See if they do it again! |

Konichiwa Leyla,
In south eastern provinces like mardin, they get licenses like from the grocery store. A friend of mine told me about people coming from istanbul to mardin just to get a license. During the exam, the right answers are announced. And for the practical exam (driving) you and the rest of the course students get into a minivan and someone drives you around! And that's it! You and these people are driving on the same roads. It is all our government's fault for giving drivers licenses to these people.
EDIT: Very sorry to hear about your parents death :( Again, it is the turkish government's fault. |

well as the time passes it will get better i think...we are all guilty on this issue of course as citizens...we always talk about such issues but very few people make difference..most of us do not really care whether those lwas are applied or not until we loose a relative of us...i dont want everybody to participate or coorparate with government or some civil assosiations..it would be quite enough to report the guys to the police who pass and do not stop during red light or park near the roads...according to our constitution we are not clearly assigned to report it but it says who does not report the crime ,that citizen is also supposed to be a criminal just because harboring or hiding the guilt...so it is not only related something with laws, there is also a public part of it.. |

The widely used way of transportation in Turkey is highways. That's definitely the reason behind so many car accidents. People use their own cars or take bus rides between cities taking long hours.
In the western Europe, highway rides between cities are very rare and trains are mostly preferred. There are many private and public railway corporations, those having fast and comfortable trains. On the other hand there are nearly no buses between far cities.
So the poor railroad network and the comfort conditions of the trains should be improved to prevent those accidents. Eventually people will start to prefer railways which is cheaper, safer and more nature-friendly.
Unfortunately this is is not the case in Turkey. While the buses and cars are changed with the new models every year, while new modern highways are built everyday, people still use the trains and railways from 60s, nothing changes with them. Conversely government are trying to move train stations out of the city centers which will totally discourage people from using railways.
There are only 40-50 trains departing from the main train station of Istanbul - one of the most populated cities of the world- per day. It's nearly equal to the per hour departures from Paris Nord Station. |

Qu'est ce que tu pense?

I know. I actually wrote a letter to the Turkish embassy (it was for school) and my topic was to write to them about the road safety in Turkey. I suggested that there should be stricter policies and that the police in Turkey should catch the people who don't obey the law. Even for me, I'm too scared to drive in Antalya, because everybody drives likes maniacs here. I think if more people were getting in trouble for disobeying the law, more drivers will get the hint and stop being so reckless. |
