With all due respect to my Greek friends' views, I think both sides will gain a lot from Turkey's membership. EU will gain strategically and economically. Turkey has a lot of natural resources and a very young population.
Turkey will gain economically (will be better than now) and democracy will set roots.
On the other hand, I agree that EU is another mechanism for big countries like Germany and France to exploit smaller ones. The original plan was to take in Turkey thus reach petrol rich areas. However, the US acted much earlier and faster than the Germans :))))))) |

I agree with Edoardo for the reason that, the euro destroyed Europe, and in the european comunity the rich will be richer, and the poor poorer...
European comunity hasnt brought good results, believe me...

Doesn't matter we're doing just fine. I see no point in sending more of out uneducated and ignorant kurdish population to europe. First we must find a way to that problem somehow. |

Having already the experience of living in a country member of the E.U., I positively say no: Euro as currency has destroyed people in Greece and in Italy (countries of my origin) because it has been used as a menas of profit beyond any control... Small enterprises and shop just close everyday and give their place to Big Stores of international financial interests, the Banks take advantage of the people' s needs, E.U. and to be more precise, the powerful countries decide for the agricultural and industrial production of the weak countries, and besides, E.U. is nothing else but the servant of U.S.A. interests (See Blaire for example, and recently Sarkosy).... I think that Turks must not allow that their country becomes a territory of rendering only touristic services (good perhaps for the Mediterranean cities but harmful for the continent of Turkey) that is a country of hotel grooms and waiters, where the rich or middle class europeans can spend their hollidays at low prices deminding at the same time high level services....
As for the answer of "emspmaps", I declare that I am european, I belong to some of the oldest families of Europe (Italy and Greece), but I decline the so called "difference of values" between Europe and Turkey, as well as the religious backgroud, because I do not see any values with the Spanish exterminating millions of natives in America, I see no values with the crimes of the Holy Inquisition, and I see no values with British and French policy with their ex colonies. As far as religion is concerned, I am an atheist so according to this "opinion" I must immigrate from Greece - Europe... Should i whisper to this answerer my undoubtful and verified european origins which have nothing to do whith these disciminations? Sorry for the tention, Turkish pals, but I get mad with opinions like this.... |

Imagine today, right now, you are watching TV and your doorbell rings. As you open, you get attacked, they take your husband and kill him in front of your eyes,or worst, they torture him, they make you walk and walk, days and days until you die of the heat or by being hungry. Why? The answer is JEALOUSY. It all starts by jealousy. turks do not have an alphabet or a home, they destroy, they take over an innocents land, they lie by telling it belongs to them and PRETEND TO HAVE A HOME, PRETEND, PRETEND, PRETEND!! To the topic:
I dont feel Turkey should be part of the EU because to me the EU is a union of countries that share not only a large part of their history but also common values based on the enlightment of our societies. It is the christian occident and not simply en economic unification like the NAFTA or similar things. Turkey does not share those values with US, Europe, and shud therefore not be a part of it. The line has to be drawn somewhere and although many ppl argue with Istanbul, Turkey is a lot more then that and stretches all the way to Iraq. A preferred partnership, to honor their political and economic importance yes - but at the same time christians are being prosecuted and terrorized in Turkey, the genozide against the Armeniens is denied and saying otherwise is a crime against Turkdom. Freedom of Speech?
So from my side it is a NO and it wont happen anyways because the French passed a law which forbids the denial of the Turkish genozide ... |

I think Turkey qualifies as a European country, but I think that Turkey becoming completely european might hurt our culture, which is based off of an Asia culture. But, if you weigh out the pros and cons, it would actually help Turkey such as with the economic ties with other countries in Europe. So, yes I would say that Turkey should be accepted into the union. |

Turkey will be accepted in future there is no another alternative for EU. Turkey is not accepted yet because it is Muslim country but the EU will get a rid of this issue and will accept Turkey for beneficial relathionship. I say "yes". |
