Should Turkey be allowed to join the EU? |

Personally, I don't like Europeans' holier-than-thou approach.
Turkey is all too qualified to join, especially after we saw who are accepted lately, but if EU officials want to continue dragging their feet and hidden racist EU politicians want to use every opponurtunity to put Turkey down, well, does EU really deserve to have Turkey?
Edit: Even Gandhi said for Europe once, "It could have been a good idea!" |

It shouldn't be allowed until Turkish people want to join. And I think they actually don't, so...
By the way, I begin to worry about the increasing rejection from Turkish to all European culture. Most of the time they don't say anything good about Europe, but there are millions of Turks living in Western Europe, so I think we're not that bad, uh?
Europe isn't perfect. Europe could be unfair, cruel and everything, but I'm sure this is the BEST PLACE IN THE WORLD for living, because at least it is the region with the most economically and politically stable environment, there are FREEDOM and high standards of living, education, industry. Although sometimes just theorically.
Murders, crimes, racism, corruption exist, but it's not exclusive of us.
I'm sure Turkey have a lot of difficulties for joining the EU (apart from the Cyprus and the Genocide matters) because most of its citizens are muslims. Those are the harsh facts. :(
But for what I see I understand both Europe's and Turks stances.
I understand the reasons why the Turks feel disappointed with the constant distrust and hypocrisy of Europe towards them, but they are generalizing of all Europeans however.
I'm sorry for being critical with Turkey, but please understand me, It's not funny to hear how everybody here never have a good word to say about us. Specially when Turkey also have things not to be proud of, just like Europe and every place in the world.
And please, never refer to Europe as a single country! We love our own countries too! lol
TO KEYSER: yeah, of course!, I know there are many Turks who have a similar lifestyle to us. I'm against the reasons like "Turkey is muslim". It is not a heavy reason because it doesn't pay attention to the political, economical and social situation. Islam is something very basic, it doesn't define any country. Are Morocco, Bosnia, Iran, Turkey the same? Obviously not. :)
This is not a personal opinion about if Turkey deserves to be in the EU or not (I'm pro-Turkey it's true) I only wanted to express my disappointment of generalizations of any kind.

Reading some answers here by 'europeans' shows how uneducated some of these people are.
People talking about 80 million muslims joining and european law having to be changed to accomodate sharia law.
TURKEY IS A SECULAR COUNTRY.TURKS REJECT ANY FORM OF SHARIA LAW OR RELIGIOUS INVOLVMENT IN RUNNING A COUNTRY.
Is that clear? If Turkey joined the EU,Turkey would reep the BENEFITS of the EU,thus there would NOT be a mass migration of 'muslims' to western europe. There would be some yes, thats expected, but there would also be Turks in western europe moving BACK to Turkey as the quality of life would be improved being in the EU,better pay ect.
Turkey at this time does not deserve EU membership.I always said until the kurdish problem is resolved then Turks dont deserve the benefit of EU membership.
There are 17 million Kurds living in Turkey just now.I cant count how many of them are uneducated and skill-less,but its alot.If Turkey joined the EU then these Kurds could migrate on mass under the banner of being 'Turkish' which would give educated skilled Turks a bad name, thus racism will flourish.
Turkey should be allowed to join in the future ,we are not ready now,the country isnt ready.
@Salva
I understand what your saying friend, about the Turks in western europe,Germany especially. The Turks in Germany have been on the whole a total failure.Around 70% of these Turks were rural eastern Turks and Kurds employed as labour, and afterwards they should have come back to Turkey, thats just my opinion. You are wrong about saying that Turks always bash 'european' culture,as there is no 'european culture'.Every nation has its own culture. You need to understand that so many of us live basically the same lifestyles as you but the 'islam connection' makes you think we dont. |

Turkey is one of the candidates for the membership of EU and once it fulfills the basic requirements it will be allowed to join. |

I don't really want an influx of 80 Million Muslim Turkish people, allot of them would flood into other countries and breed, increasing the Muslim population everywhere. Muslims are ok, but too many of them in one place they will try to change how things are run. |

No. At least 20 million of them already live in Germany/Holland and another 10 million in other parts of Europe. Too many muslims will de stabilise things plus they are not Europeans historically speaking. |

I have seen and answered this question many times. To be honest, if I was a Turk, I would be extremely annoyed by this c o n t i n u i n g question that still seems to remain 'unanswered'.
Anyway, there is a list of changes that they have to make and when they make them, it seems that they will enter the EU. |

Yes. It would be good to get a new member that is self sufficient and improving rapidly. The issue of human rights, that has been used to keep Turkey out in the past, is a bit of a snowscreen. We have member states with worse records and are happy to trade with USA which has a diabolical record. Personally I think that it will be good for trade as we will be able to buy good cheap cotton, coal, fruit and veg crops, pharmacuetical opium products etc Currently we have an agreement to buy such goods from USA that puts an unnatural limit on the goods we can buy from other countries outside this trade agreement and the EU. You might rather ask whether Turkey would benefit from joining the EU. |

Once turkey joins, all European governments will have to amend their laws to make way for Sharia person law. It allows a muslim to basically have upto four wives, breed like rabbits and give him a license to rape and plunder. Its time to get scared. I persoanlly have nothing against muslims, but its their laws which scare the f*** out of me. Imagine a mosque in your area which calls the 'believers' for prayers at 5 am every morning! It can all be very true in case turkey is allowed to join EU. Life as we know it will cease to exist. Watch out all us infidels, the moslems are coming... |
