depends on where in Turkey you will be going. Generally I change about £50 to tide me over first few days. I take a mix of sterling cash and travellers cheques and also take my nationwide bank card (as it does not charge for currency conversion) to use in the auto teller - just in case. Remember you will need a £10 sterling note for your visa on entry to Turkey. Whatever you decide it is well worth the money to hire a safe deposit box at your hotel. |

I am English and i now live in Turkey and i have never been swindled when exchanging money here! I dont know what the exchange is like in the Travel Agents/Banks back in the UK at the moment (So cant comment on which is best) but todays rate in one of the exchange booths here said 1.00 GBP = 2.61906 YTL.The Banks here usually give you a better rate of exchange but i would suggest that you shop about for best exchange rate with the banks and exchange booths. You would do that in the UK so why not in Turkey or anywhere else in the world for that matter!
Keep an eye on www.xe.com for up to the minute exchange rates ... it will give you a fair idea of what the rate is doing.
I hope you have a wonderful holiday wherever you are going in Turkey!!! |

no need to exchange in the UK. |You will get a better rate in Turkey plus almost every place takes sterling and if you don't use you ytl you will have to lose more money changing it back to sterling. |

there are exchange offices were you get higher rates and the currency is shown openly so you can calculate how much you will get.So there is no chance you would get cheated.
Just count your money as you should do anywhere and any time. have fun! |

We have been going to Marmaris for a few years now. (and we are going to turkey in 2 weeks time)
Altinkum. We find that the exchange rate in Turkey has always been better than the UK, the banks show the rates in the windows, but we found local shops, and trip sellers, give an even better deal.
Saying that:- It's a gamble. |

Your better just having a little from the UK to tied you over, but the better exchange rate has always been in Turkey, BUT just be careful of where you do busines!

At the moment, its better to take a small amount of currency out there with you, and then change the rest when you get there, I'm sure you will find you will get a better rate of exchange. |

I usually change some money say about £100.00 and then take the rest in pounds and change it over there as you get a better exchange rate. When you do change your money before you go, ask for a ready reckoner so you can check it is correct when changing over there. |

I always get my money changed before I go, incase something happens. If you really wanted to change it inTurkey then you can change a small amount of it (£40 or so) just incase then change the rest of it out there.
Usually the exchange rate isn't much different from that here, so won't make much of a difference, just which ever you'd prefer.
Have a fab holiday and don't forget the sun cream! |

i think you should get your money changed in the UK because in turkey they could give you the wrong amount of money. |
