Should the US invade its NATO ally Greece to secure the position of the Government?

Additional Details
imagine if the rioters bring down the Government, and install an anti-American state in Europe, can the US tolerate this?

Show all answers

Empire: Total War
No. What Greece does is none of our business. They can be anti-American if they want to. I doubt that would happen anyway...

EDIT@Agrafa: Because you felt the need to discredit my answer in another question, I will pick up on the ridiculous points in your answer.

1. "As far as I know US contacts "peace and freedom wars" only when there is a profit to receive".

That answer comes from an un-educated child who knows nothing about History or political matters globally. Only someone of your small mentality and ignorance would think such a thing.

2. When did they invade a country without a profit to it?

Umm, let's think here.

(A) The Vietnam War. There were NO resources of any profit there to harvest or collect. The main aim was to stop the spread of Communism to South Vietnam and restore prosperity. Vietnam had been a French colony for 100 years and had already been economically exploited.

(B) World War II....the D-Day invasion of Normandy (with the British, Australians and Canadians). What resources were there? If anything, the German war machine would have used up all supplies possible..What about in South-East Asia? You can't possibly say America "started" an invasion at all. The Pearl Harbour bombing on December 11, 1941 triggered the United States involvement.

(C) Korean War..Again, this halted the North Koreans and Chinese from imposing Communist ideologies upon South Korea (a Democratic Country).

(D) Iraq and Iran was a war against terrorism to establish a stable democratic government which can handle the current problems the Middle-East faces. It aimed to slowly take neighbourhoods from insurgent control, insitigating a program for future development and protection. Iraq military and police were being trained for the sole purpose of their benefit.

(E) World War I...fighting against world domination by the Triple Alliance of Austria, Germany and Hungary. Not to mention the Ottoman Empire.

How many more do you want me to list? It's clear you don't know anything about History at all. The United States is using its "Superpower" title to assist other country's in re-building themselves, or protecting them from dangers which they cannot possibly deter. Which is more than I can say for Greece.

3. So, why bother come to this side of the planet?

Because Greece is a corrupt society filled with rebellious citizens (who are rioting might I add). Their actions will cause innumerable deaths and overthrow the government. Greece itself is far from a developed nation in world standards and lacks the very basics of good education, strong finances and power in the armed forces.

If you don't want me "commenting" on your answer, don't "comment" on mine.

Greece already is an anti-American country.
Greek military budget - enormous for the size of the country - all spent - not a bullet bought from the US, loads of stuff from Russia.
Greek ports - Chinese to manage them, naturally contrary to american interest.
Kosovo, the US experiment, not yet recognised by Greece.
Macedonia, Greece blocked Macedonia's entry into NATO, thus ruining the US plans to stabilise the region.

so, my question is contrary: is it possible that the US are somehow behind these riots?

None of the NATO countries can invade another NATO country.
In fact, it' s the other way around : All NATO countries must help and defend the other NATO countries, in case of attacks from another non-NATO country.
Even Greece and Turkey, despite of their old disputes, have signed this alliance treaty.
So why would the US betray the alliance's principle?

The Warsaw Pact was the communist answer to the capitalist NATO.
Czechoslovakia was a member of it.
That did not stop the armed forces from Russia, Hungary, Bulgaria, East Germany and Poland to come by force and attack Czechoslovakia in August 1968.

All of them comrades in arms and politics.

And why?
Just because the Czechoslovakians were doing little more free politics.
Still fully communist, mind you.

So if all those countries could and did - what is stopping the NATO to do the same.

And do not think that them two are so different (Russia and USA) in matters concerning the policing of the world.

Tony C
Right there you have the principle reason why the USA is loathed around the world. It is NO business of the USA what happens in Greece or any other country. The sooner Americans realise this the sooner their country will be respected.

Louis
Hey!!! Pick up the phone!!! reality calls you!!! You haven't spoke with her a long time ago and you lost touch!!!

I think it would be a better idea if Turkey invaded Greece but America invading is a good idea too. Just make it quick and decisive.

Well, not invasion, only 'limited tactical movements" of 10000 tanks and 2000 F-16s.

The answer is NO because HELLAS has no oil, natural gas or diamonds for USA to steal.
As far as I know US contacts "peace and freedom wars" only when there is a profit to receive.
When did they invade a country without a profit to it?
So, why bother come to this side of the planet?
I'm sure you know that our neighbor countries Turkey, Albania and Vardaria are so very democratic!!!
Besides US made it sure they stay forever democratic and back-bending towards US!

What?

Greece's government is not, and never was, at threat of being over thrown. The recent riots have subsided and it was never the intention of any large group to seize control of Parliament. How could they without serious weapons and an army.

If the US had intervened militarily (which would not have been in their best interests), they would have done little to resolve matters. Most probably, the situation would have been exacerbated. Imagine the consequences of angry and disillusioned students seeing American troops deployed in their home cities.

It's also hard to imagine what the US army could have added that the Greek army could not.

In short, no the US should not invade Greece.

(Maybe Europe should have invaded California during the L.A. riots)

First and foremost, NATO allies cannot attack each other.
Second, USA is not the policeman of the world and should stop acting as such.
There are a lot of problems in the USA right now that need a solution, let alone get involved in another war in another country with questionable results.
Whether the USA can tolerate a new Greek government or not,is not the Greek's concern. It is an internal issue and nobody should intervene with it!
Let freedom ring!

hi-c
NATO should invade the US and save its citizens from corporate greed.

Sod the Americans! This is none of their business. It is probable that Greece would be better off with a left of centre government, but this is their concern only. What a bloody cheek!!

truly
Are you insane? These are domestic matters, nothing to do with neither NATO nor the US. What's the matter with some Americans who think they have a right to act wherever they please in the world. Keep in mind that Europe isn't some third world country the US can manage any way they please. Of course, this is not the US, this is just you! If the US intervened they would certainly lose all their allies. What if Europe acted in the US everytime there are demonstrations/riots? You know, just to make sure they don't overthrow the government?

Jonny D
OMFG are u americans totally losing the plot ???????? i doubt it maybe its just you ........

(a) this has nothing to do with america so mind your own business

(B) these people are fighting to have a government that works for the people maybe we should all concider copying them

(C) an american invasion army within russias grasp

(D) europe may completly turn against america

(E) guaranteed ..... the greeks dont want you there nobody does

(F) if that were to ever happen u do realise it could not saying it would but it could spark the fires for world war 3

(G) america would lose every allie it has on the planet

alvin c
NO. its a domestic matter and has nothing to do with nato.

OMG Dear Lord!!
Why do I have to read that kind of questions?

NATO is an alliance.A military alliance.
If ever Nato broke an alliance , is like voiding the reason of its existance.

Nato in general and especially America cannot interfere in another's country's INTERNAL issues.

These are thought of other "democratic" countries, where they grab every chanche to interfere ,even verbally, in another country's internals.

friendly and funny Fyromian :))
NATO should invade my dear Fyrom, because my country is the poorest in the former Yugoslavia, it`s a asshole

and NATO should destroy USA,

Lego Indy
Hell no. No American lives and money should be wasted on that country. Let them destroy themselves. Too bad we can't have laws to prevent people from those countries from immigrating to the US.
