Hi,
as for me ,Türkiye should be member of the Shanghai Cooperation Union because this union have more advantage for us rather than EU or MU.

..Tolia..
yes they should

but I dont know if it would be good for them

look what EU did to Greece! lol

A country can't have a religion, Turkey is secular. This is the first one.
Then, I really really don't care about EU and don't want Turkey to be in it.

nakis
first of all turkey is not a democratic country because in one real democracy the army do not participate to the political scene! secondly the european civilization based on greek civilization on french revolution and on cChristianity turkey have not adopted anything of these.. so there is not any common between turkey and europe!! the only common between us,europeans, and turks are the free economy but turkey is very poor country... but at the end i agree to be turkey a eu member because in this way my country, greece, will solve many problemswith turkey Democratic also i agree because turks will enjoy real democracy!!

I'm so sick of seeing this question and I usually wouldn't try to answer such questions but nothing to do atm, I'm bored so I'll give it a go...:p Well, my understanding is that to keep the EU$ valuable, they need to have countries with relatively stable economies otherwise no point eh? It all depends on who is exporting what, how is the country making profit? etc; The more countries in EU, the more risk. That's the bottom line, i think. I dont think the EU cultural differences really plays a part in any of this at all. Allies are no longer established by cultural commonalities, but rather capital capacity. Anyone who actually knows economic/political theory please feel free to enlighten me, as I do not claim to know sh** all. This is just my perception.

So in terms of the question regarding Turkey and EU - I think Turkey would definitely benefit from the EU, but would the EU benefit from Turkey? Well I'm thinking there are a few countries in the EU who are a lot worse off, as in, less profitable than Turkey. Seriously, how much can Cyprus contribute to the EU in the next 300 years? Turkey has a population that will eventually prosper when all the debt is out of the way, if it were upto me, I would seriously consider Turkey. Thank god its not up2 me :) I have no idea.... So what to do...hmm...what about some of the middle eastern countries... they're rich (UAE etc;) why isn't Turkey forming stronger relations with them to get some boosting? Is there some kind of Middle eastern union that Turkey can get involved in? If there is, would that mean that Turkey would need to be an Islamic state...huh? (i wouldnt agree with that myself) Actually the more I think about this, I think the problem is nobody trusts Turkey...what do you guys think?

Haha :) bu i$ler beni a$iyo...kafam yoruldu lol

BuseTurk
No... I don't see why it is so important for us to join... I would be much happier if we did not depend on E.U so much and not get bullied around by them.

When Turkey solves its political problems and their human rights issues,YES,it should be let to join the EU.

Woooolfff
If they meet the criteria (which should be the same as other applicant countries), yes.

I'm not sure that Turkey should join the EU whether the EU wants them or not because I think it may possibly ruin Turkey. I do however think that Turkish citizens should be given the same rights as holders of EU passports and be able to travel freely. I find it unbelieveable that I can travel to Turkey on holiday and pay £10 to enter the country but Turkish people can not come the UK as easily. It's very unfair.

Turkey should be member of countries who are really growing economically with out being the pet of USA such as EU is. Turkey should joing countries like Russia, or China stand by himself and dont kiss the back of EU. Turkey dont need them but they need Turkey.

Lady S
If they want to, they should.

Totally Blunt
Social problems exist in EU, too, my friend. Name any problem Turkey has, I'll give you a similar example from EU.

general3535
why not!

MaCeDonIan PhaLanX
Yes Turkey sould be member of EU!
And to some users, my dear turkish friends ignore them, because you know what we say in Macedonia about these kind of comments: "The rabbit said to donkey: "You have big ears" ":)!
Every country has problems - political, religious, ethnic....
There are members (countries) in the EU that are not recognizing their own minorites...and suddenly they've becomed experts about Turkey???
hmmmm:)
Greetings from Macedonia!

fidget
When Turkey fulfills the criteria of course it should be allowed to join, if not, the other member states are just being racist.

Should Turkey want to join the EU is a much more complicated question.

ireneseanoshea
I believe Turkey would be an asset to the EU they are a democracy & most uphold Western Ideals.Strategically they are well placed to help with problems in the middle east being mostly muslim they could be arbiters with empathy.Their belief in fair play is considerable we need them more than they need us remember Turkey is very self sufficient
