So.....What do you think about...? |
the internet limitations applied to Turkish Internet users?
Some gambling sites, poker sites are silently closed to Turkish users after youtube and google groups. One day they (whoever they are?) may decide to close some other sites too,or they may decide to use other rules to Turkish people, for examle prohibiting alcohol.
What are you guys thinking,i want to hear every opinion about it,thanx |

It seems the "princess" knows a lot about porn.
Anyway. The internet is evaluated with the freedom of doing things most of the time, but we should also take into consideration that some parts of it concerns freedoms without liabilities.
Internet means spreading child porn easily, for example.
Internet means insulting people, but not facing the consequences you would face in real life.
Internet means gambling when it is forbidden in your own country.
Also, as you have pointed out, internet means manipulating it for your agenda. So, there is no easy answer about internet, but my point of reference is, what would I say if it was real life rather than virtual. |

Prohibitions make people to do those things more.
Alcohol, porn, poker etc. are up to our choice like türban, hac etc. But they don't understand (or they don't want to understand) this and behave stupidly. |

Sounds like, maybe, some people are being punished for the abuses of others. I think that most sites that get closed down in such situations, because of extensive abuses.
Don't know what you can do about it. |

Yes, I have to admit that while I was looking up few things in you-tube, I had a glimpse of some Turkish football fans have done videos which I found few disgusting and rude. Then I looked into it more carefully and saw another quarrel between Turks from different region and there were so embarrassing ones that were making unbelievable remarks on our flag plus more important to M.Kemal Atatürk; who is the founder of Turkish Republic and man of Honor, courage and forth-sight..
On the other hand I do play poker in one website and I see some Arab speaking, Turkish speaking even some French speaking people telling each other their hands. And this is no way near fair play. Some people even meet in msn, skype or in other ways.
<However I can not stop myself of saying that these are the minority of our people. And most important and you need to believe this; esspcially English and French people tend to annoy us while playing poker. For example making fun out of our mustaches ( even I have one ) and our language on top few think we don't understand the language so they swear changing the places of off words. |

i don't gamble so it doesn't affect me. and its not bad thing at all . gambling is not good. maybe this happens cuz of hundreds of gamblers goes running and crying to the government cuz they lost their savings. What wud happen if the Mafia has their fingers into Internet gambling like in Casinos. and its not only in turkey other countries banning internet gambling as well. i smell conspiracy theory in dis question . its like sumfing bad must be behind it woteva the government do. alcohol cant be banned when part of turkish economy stands on alcohol sales. please stop wid the bashing government |

You know, its absolutely despicable for any government to try and limit people's fundamental rights, because that only shows they don't care about human rights and democracy.
This is the reason that countries that do respect basic human rights (the democracies) become the greatest nations, while those that limit them (the totalitarians) are destined to live in turmoil and uncertainty. |

They are definitely annoying (Google Groups and YouTube, but at the moment they arent blocked, ^_^). I couldnt care less about gambling sites they are useless (like drugs).
They have plenty of other sites closed: for a while I couldn't get into some huge blogs (I cant remember exactly what they were, but they had to do with software and such(nothing with politics), I was like WTF!!!!)
The bans were more than effective, I do approve bans to this point on YouTube atleast, disrespect is a form of showing hate, and hate is a crime when taken to action IMO, so it is reasonable,
there are some other bans to some sites that I dont approve of but I'd rather not talk about them... |

Trotsky vs Kerensky- ŠŠµŠŗIо!

I don't see how internet relates to alcohol prohibition. We all know what 'they' would 'wish' to do, but to think 'they' would 'achieve' something like alcohol prohibition in a country like Turkey seems unrealistic. I do hope we get rid of 'them' and their 'wishes' as soon as we can.
Although it lasted only a couple of days, the youtube bans were very stupid and unnecessary. The bans made little difference to the source of the problem and it worked only at the disadvantage of millions of Turkish users.
P.S
To all those who use the term totalitarian loosely as if it is a residual category for non democratic regimes, stop revealing your astounding ignorance. |
