My opinion, elections should be held as foreseen. The terrible inferno could have happened the day before or after September 16th; so its influence on Greek politics is a coincidence that will partly affect the electorate but will force government to take measures for the future for sure.
What disturbs me more is the news about the priority that is given to restore the beautiful site of Olympia with all means and at any cost, in order to create the desired atmosphere and decoration at the starting point for the Olympic flame leaving to the Beijing 2008 games.. spent that money on the people who suffered and still suffer in the aftermath of the wildfires, and make it a sober ceremony commemorating those that died in those fires; the world and its athletes will support that idea without doubt. |

Pink Floyd's "welcome to the machine". The financial intererests behind Policy have decided so.
And as I avoid to generalize, I think that Karamanlis is the best and most honest politician we have ever had in power (Papariga is excellent and honest too but never in power) in the last 25 years, but his party is consisted either of the old, well known Mavrogialouros's style persons, or of persons completely insufficient as Polydoras and Basiakos (the catastrophe we all suffer of is to a certain point their responsability).
Karamanlis had no alternative. The scandals his party is involved in, and the pressure of the well known financial clan (Editors-Shipowners-Constructions companies-Manufacturers) have cornered him and he was forced to decide so.
On the other side, the caressed child of the Americans and the real supporter of local financial trusts, Giorgakis, has given his guarantees to his protectors and he's preparing himself for the role (sic) of the Prime Minister, just counting his power and using these elections as a prova generale for his debute.
Trusts have no interest for the environment. Don't forget their negative contribution to its already permanent damage. |

I apologise for replying in Greek but I don't know how to translate the following in English.

I think its the right time
Being awaken by the fires, its time to control our "traditional tendency" that lead us to vote for the same party for years, and open our eyes !
This Land needs change
Now is the time- |

I think we must finally learn to have elections every 4 years, at a standard date, unless a major political crisis indicates otherwise. This situation with teh opposition keeps asking for elections all the time (both parties) and the government bargaining on when to do it and a whole country wondering when we shall have elections, like this is a random procedure, is wrong. Not to mention how much every election costs. If it is more often than 4 years, the total cost in, say 12 years is this of 4 elections instead of the cost of 3 elections that it should be. |

Kicky's text is the right answer.
According to our Constitution, once announced, cannot be called off for the reason of this disaster. |

personal opinion..elections wont be fair.becoz oppositions will use the disaster to give out false hopes.,and also people r still healing and even false hopes can cloud their judgement epecially with so much tension already against the current government |

Kicky,said what is correct!
even if there weren't elections,do you think they would"plan"anything for the disaster caused by the fires?
look back when the earthquake hit Athens....people are still living in those"houses"made for temporary residence!!
another question you may ask is"is there ever a right time for elections!!?"
i also agree with what Dellarovere says!! |

I think what 's happening is a disgrace. Instead of uniting together to fix this problem, everyone is taking advantage of the disaster to blame each other. It's terrible. It just makes me so sad. And it's the worst time to go to elections. I think no one should vote. And I mean no one. But of course everyone will... |
