In my part of the world, Turkey is known for it's carpets (silk carpets) and excellent faience (colored tilework).
Turkey is also known for it's colorful history. From Anatolia to Alexander the Great until the Ottomans to the Republic of today.
Sorry but I was talking about Alexander the Great's part in Turkish history in generalwhich makes it a part of Turkish History. He was not from Turkey of course. ^_^
Alexander’s death and the Roman conquest of Anatolia is called the Hellenistic age which is one of the great ages in history. |

As the subject is novel for me, I'll say shepherd dogs.
This is a Kangal dog, known also as Karabash (black head), which is getting more and more popular in USA. It was a Kangal that "acted" in the movie Cats and Dogs:

And that's an Akbash (white head):

AKC incorrectly lumps them all into the same category as Anatolian Shepherd. |

Omar Faruk Tekbilek!!!, (excellent musician: nay, zurna, percussions, singer)
Dilek Kots (beautiful voice), Yilmaz Guney (film director, novelist and actor),
Nazim Hikmet: the poet,
Orhan Pamuk (novelist - Nobel Prize in Literature 2006).
To Joannah: When Alexander the Great made history, Turks AND TURKEY did not even exist in the world. They came to what is now Turkey centuries later. So, the era of Alexander and the Hellenistic Age are not part of Turkish history OR TURKEY.
Alexander was Greek and spread the Greek civilisation all over these territories:
