This site has a lot of useful information, links to museums, sights and information:
http://www.amsterdam.info/

There are many museums that are fun to visit, like the handbag museum: http://www.amsterdam.info/museums/tassenmuseum/
A science center: http://www.amsterdam.info/museums/nemo/
A Pianola museum:
http://www.pianola.nl/ (Although it is having limited opening times now.)
There are several old houses redecorated as they used to be in the past, one of them having a church hidden:
http://www.museumamstelkring.nl/
Some others: Museum van Loon:
http://www.amsterdam.info/museums/van-loon/
Museum Willet Holthuysen:
http://www.amsterdam.info/museums/museum_willet-holthuysen/

You can also shop in Amsterdam, the center of town has many of the main brands and there are several areas with different special shops, this page is pretty good:
http://www.amsterdam.info/shopping/

Just wandering around in Amsterdam is nice too, there are busy and quiet streets.
For sightseeing, canal tours are good, or you can join one of the many bike tours.

And of course, the popular things are popular with a reason. If you have read the Anne Frank book you will want to see the house:
http://www.annefrank.org/content.asp?pid=1&lid=1&setlanguage=2 It might be worth it to buy your tickets on-line and get in without having to wait in a line.
Same for van Gogh museum:
http://www3.vangoghmuseum.nl/vgm/index.jsp

Enjoy your stay.

Rijksmuseum
Van Gogh Museum
Anne Frank House
The Melkweg (Milky Way), though I'm not sure of the age restriction
The grownups might wish to go out on the edge and visit the Museum of Torture; pretty freaky
The flower market
Improv shows by TVA or Boom Chicago

I recommend taking the boat canal tour. It travels around the whole city, and you may see things you'd like to visit later.

Well the most things to visit are already mentioned above, however I didn't read anything about renting a bicycle which is one of the best ways to travel in Holland.

Also see de Jordaan area, with a lot of cafe's restaurants and nice shops.

You can also vist the red light district (just for watching, strange experience and best to do in the evening with just the two adults, depands on the age of the teenager) take a canal cruise and watch the different types of old architecture and visit some great and or strange museums mentioned above.

have a pleasent stay.

I think the best would be to rent bikes and go on a bike tour.
Canal tour is also great.

Heineken Experience was ok, nothing really educational, they didnt show exactly how they make it. This is just a museum not the actual factory itself.

Anne Frank House is def something to do.

Van Gogh museum, if you are into that.

Flower markets are amazing there.

Shop.

Eat at Febo

Madam Tussands (spelling?) Wax Museum is fun, weird. Great for the kids too! Plenty to do. Have fun!
