Both....

being a Turkish is also about REALIZING how a human-made distinction (European vs Asian) can be meaningless

Trotsky is right. And that's because "Europeans" arenot typecast, one of a kind people.

Before thumbing people down, just think: how similar is a stereotypical Spaniard and a stereotypical, I don't know, Australian?

No individual country defines European culture and therefore Turkey can only be said to be Turkish. But if you insist, I can say Turkish people are European, Mediterranean, Anatolian and Balkanese.

When you say Asian, China and India comes to mind, not Turkey.

This sort of question gets asked all the time we are Turkish, however the land of Turkey has a total area of : 775 000 km²

The total area on the European Continent is 24,378 km², considering that the European portion of Turkish lands is several times if not many many times bigger than some so called European Nations/States/Countries why wouldn't some Turks feel European or others Asian. What difference does it really make if you feel European or Asian ?? You are what you are and at the end of the day we are all Human, however it appears that some Humans aren't even in the Human Race let alone anywhere near winning it.

Andorra Total area: 468 km²
Armenia Total area: 29 743 km²
Belgium Total area: 30 158 km²
Cyprus Total area: 9 000 km²
Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia Total area: 25 713 km²
Greece Total area: 131 957 km²
Liechtenstein Total area: 160 km²
Luxembourg Total area: 2 586 km²
Malta Total area: 316 km²
Monaco Total area: 1.95 km²
Montenegro Total area: 13 812 km²
San Marino Total area: 61.2 km²
Slovenia Total area: 20 000 km²
Switzerland Total area: 41 284 km²
Vatican City State Total area: 0.4 km²

what is european? being 'white and christian'?

or being white and democratic and holding european laws?

screw all that, there is no such thing as a 'european' whatsoever.its land mass.turk is a turk, italian an italian, swede a swede, they dont look the same but come under 'europes' borders.

'asian' is the far east in my opinion.

to otakuron....

yes turks came from central asia centuries ago,but does that make them non-european? germans appeared in ancient india but migrated.its all about migration and how far ur willing to go back in history.

ofcourse turks in turkey today are 'european'.they live identical lives to almost every other 'european' on the continent.

of course Turks are Asian people, moreover, they live in Western Asia in Anatolia. But any people in the world has many faces and characteristics for their culture. So Turkish culture is Turkish, Asian, West Asian, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, Islamic, European and Balkan.
