The borders between Europe and Asia are based entirely on culture, hence Europe. It's a historically European state that expanded eastwards through colonialism. Ethnic Russians are Slavic and purely European culturally and racially, and since they're the dominant ethnicity in Russia, it is European. The majority of population of Russia lives in the geographically European part of this country, too (106 out of 142 millions, according to Wikipedia).
P.S. The absolute majority of autonomous republics in Russia are not European, however. They aren't called autonomous for nothing, and they should be viewed separately. |

Both. The boundary between Europe and Asia is at the Ural Mountains, which run north-to-south through the Russian Federation. In terms of surface area, more of Russia is in Asia, but in population, it's more European (since most of what's east of the Urals is Siberian wasteland). |

Ural mountains(in western part of russia) are in border of Europe and Asia.
So about 1/2 of russian people live in Europe.
And about 1/2 of people live in Asia. |
