The Stainless Steel Rat
As this is arguably the most common Greek word I have to give you as bit of background and clarify some things. it is a three syllable word and has two pronunciations.
Mala'ka with the stress on the last syllable means softly
Ma'laka with the stress on the second syllable means wanker, masturbator, asshole
The etymology of the word come from ancient times and it meant soft in the brain.
However nowadays it is used in a variety of ways with a range of meanings.
Don't be a malaka means don't be stupid or don't behave like an asshole.
Malaka can refer to a person who is very narrow minded, opinionated, incompetent.
The philosophy behind it is obvious. You must be dumb if you can not find a receptive female and you waste your sperm on thin air.
Oddly enough it is also a greeting. You greet your friend male or female by "Yia sou malaka"(stress always on second syllable) kind of equivalent use of "hey dude".
One last thing :Malaka (stress always on second syllable) is also a pale yellow cheese found in northern Greece.

Well, depending on where you put the accent:

Malaká (with the last a, accented) means softly or gently.

Maláka (with the second a, accented) means stupid, idiot, jackass... something like that. An insult.

malakas is the wannker in greek

it is very common used among men of the same age and who know each other, in that case it's not a curse word

when you call someone you don't know malaka it's like calling him wannker or ********

when you say in greek "do you think I am malakas" or "I am not malakas" = malakas there has the meaning of fool

when you say that someone is saying malakies = it means that he is saying nonsense (just like the turks)

"Malaka" is an unusual Greek dessert dish made with onions, olives & pears, also used as a word to mean "softness" or "lightness".

6 pears, (aged in a brown paper bag for at least a week)
750 ml (1 bottle) sweet wine «Moschato»
2 sticks vanilla split in two
a dozen pitted black olives, mashed with a dozen "cocktail onions" until a smooth paste has formed.
rind and juice of 1 orange

Instructions:

Carefully peel the pears removing the skin and leaving the stick (a good solution is to use a carrot peeler).

Place in a sauce pan (it should be large enough to fit the pears and allow them to be covered with the wine) add the wine together olive/onion mixture and the rind and juice of an orange.

Leave to boil for 20 minutes over low heat. With the help of a knife remove the inside of the vanilla sticks and add everything. Continue to boil for another 15-20 minutes until the pears are only slightly soft and serve cold with yogurt or a white cheese. For the daring it is an excellent combination with roquefort.
