Travelling alone?

have you ever gone abroad alone?
or other significant journey alone?

i.e not just down to the shops alone but far far away.

Yes, I did.

Aged 16, I travelled by train and ferry back home to Ireland on my own, a journey of 26 hours. It was great fun.

When I was 20, I went to the US on my own. Haven't been back.

In my twenties I travelled around Germany and Austria on my own.

In my thirties I travelled with my significant other, but we would often go our separate ways during the day and meet up for dinner that night.

Yes, to the other side of the world. It's scary but as long as you are sensible about stuff, it's great! A fantastic confidence boost. They may speak a different language and have different cultures... but people are the same all over :-)

I did. I was in Europe for two weeks by myself and it was amazing. I was as careful as I could be when I traveled but spending the time by myself, picking what I wanted to do, and having times of self reflection was an amazing experience. I'm so glad I did it.

Yes, I started as a very young girl when I travelled abroad alone, and I continued this practice later on in life, at least once every couple of years.
I like travelling alone and I'd do it even more if I could.
It's a great way to spend time with yourself. I'm happy to say none of my mother's gloomy thoughts and possible horrors that I could meet on my travels ever came true:)

Yes, most of the trips I make are on my own. I've never had any problems. While it's nice to have company on a trip, I wouldn't just sit home because there's no one else available to go somewhere. There are tradeoffs either way. One positive thing about solo travel is that you can do exactly the things that interest you and be flexible enough to change plans on the fly if something interesting comes up.

I travel mostly alone, and have done so for more than 20 years.

I think I would find it very hard to travel with others now.
I am so used to doing my own thing.
But I have started to use short tours as parts of my longer solo travels.
In Australia I went on several 6 days tours in between traveling alone by train and plane.
But overall, traveling alone is my preferred way.

Yeah, I came out to Cyprus on my own for two months before my husband came out to join me. I have to say though, even though I was alone, I have always felt safe and comfortable here!!! I did feel a bit like Shirley Valentine on a couple of occasions when I went out to restaurants alone,( and yes, that was a huge step for me!!) but the feeling of freedom was wonderful!!!

Yes, I started travelling alone when i was 14, I am from UK and i started by visiting penpals in Malta and Spain, then when i was 15 i went to Mexico City to stay with a penfriend on my own!! which was great!. You need to learn about the culture before you go to places otherwise you will have a 'culture shock' and not be able to settle in very easily. :)

i went to prague alone this past november. it was absolutely awesome being able to do everything i wanted to do and not have to tell anyone where i was going.

i would totally recommend traveling alone to anyone. it gives you a chance to see how independent you can really be and makes you feel great when you "live" to tell that you were able to accomplish visiting a county with a different language by youself.
