Turkey, Europe, Zeus, is Turkey Europe? |
According to this Greek myth, Zeus turns into a bull and offers the anatolian princess Europe a ride. As she accepts it he brings her to crete and ever since that continent with the island crete on it is called Europe. So Turkey is both name donor of Europe and homeland for st. nicholas. Isn't Turkey more European than Europe itself? |

Without Turks and Muslims Europe wouldn't be what it is. |

First in ancient times there were no Turks in Anatolia. We all know that they came during the Byzantine times.
Second in Greek mythology, Europa was a Phoenician princess whom Zeus abducted after assuming the form of a dazzling white bull.
Etymologically, the dominant theory suggests the name Europe is derived from the Greek roots meaning broad (eur-) and eye (op-, opt-), hence Eurṓpē, "wide-gazing" (compare with glaukōpis (grey-eyed) Athena or boōpis (ox-eyed) Hera).
You understand that Europe (Ευρώπη) is a Greek word.
So first it's Greek Mythology (not real) and second even if it wasn't in the imagination of Greeks, what Phoenicians have to do with the Turks ? Because they were living there thousands of years before the Turks you say that they were Turks ?
Also what St Nicholas has to do with the Turks?
Saint Nicholas (Greek: Άγιος Νικόλαος , Agios Nikolaos, "victory of the people") is the common name for Nicholas of Myra, a Christian saint and Bishop of Myra in Lycia of Anatolia (modern-day Antalya province, Turkey, though at the time it was a Greek-speaking Roman Province).
At St Nicholas' times there were no Turks in Asia Minor, it was a Roman Province full of Greeks (even his name is Greek).
I say again that Turks came in Asia Minor after many many centuries.
So whatever you say in your question is wrong !
The "relations" (whatever they were) between the Turks and the Europeans were after the Fall of the Byzantine Empire.
It's not me who tells that, it's the historical facts and general history ! |

Turkey is not in Europe!!!! |

Turkey is not a European country.
Turkey is in Asia.
And what about the Greek mythology? What has to do that stories with turkish culture?
Don't forget that the time that people believed in those myths there were not turkish at all in that location of the planet.Turks were still living in Asia close to Mongolia.
It is totally irrelevant! |

Don't associate yourselves with all the Greek achievements, just because you now own a piece of land that was once lived by Greeks. Don't you people own some history? Apparently not! |

if we only try to decide if turkey is european/ part of europe from greek myths, yes, turkey's west shores are in europe. but world is not turning around myths, so it's not. |

I'm not familiar with this myth, but what I do know is that 97% of Turkey is in Asia and the remaining 3% is in Europe. The Asian part of Turkey is in a region known as Anatolia and the European 3% is in a region known as Thrace. So no, Turkey isn't more European than Europe itself. It is Asian by geography and religion, but Eurasian by culture. |

Geographically? Yes. Cultural? No. We are Asian people. :) |

firstly you guys might dont know so much thing about this country im a turk there are many ethnic groups in turkey like pomaks(eastern thrace generally) they dont call themselves as slavic people even if they might be or gagauz people i've never heard so far that they call themselves as turkic bulgars well im a thracian i have bosniak friends in istanbul
you know why turkey has many immigrants since the treaty of Lausanne in 1923 yeah all of them are here but still you're right because its a different thing being in europe(which is a continent and cyprus isnt in this continent) or being european (you know what i mean)
in scientificially turkish genes are really rather low in east anatolian population (because of the kurds almost 15 million and etc.) caucasid and mediterranian people its changing some areas
i dont mean we belong to europe though everything happens for a reason and mostly has more than one reason
europe is a greek word thats true it also has a semitic origin too in akkad it means "to go down" its like a thrace word its first mentioned by greeks but it derives from the semitic root |

Trotsky vs Kerensky- НекIо!

Greek myths are hardly serious things to be taken as a measure of geographical and, in the case of Turkey, political boundaries. Do you read the stories of Grimm brothers to draw out serious conclusions about politics and history? Or do you believe that Xerxes was a 3 metre giant who walked around butt naked? Nah, I don't find that very convincing.
It remains a mystery for me to see foreigners being more interested than Turks in this whole Europe thing. |

There would be no europe without turkey. Europe is turkey.
EDIT: Lol here is one more for you:
EUROPE IS DOOMED WITHOUT TURKEY :DDDD |
