Turkish Delight...for breakfast?

I was a little surprised when staying at a 4 star hotel in Turkey to see a huge bowl of Turkish delight along with all the other stuff at the buffet breakfast...
Is this normal? I know it is highly unlikely that Turkish people regularly eat Turkish delight for breakfast but has anyone seen this in other hotels?

I must admit, I did over-indulge a bit too much! You will have a fantastic holiday in Turkey :)

Yes, you are right, it is unlikely for a Turk to eat "lokum" for breakfast. (We call it lokum by the way)
But I saw what you saw this summer in Antalya: there were various kinds of lokums in big trays served for the open buffet breakfast at the hotel which I was staying. Me and my husband got shocked and asked the waiters "hey, what's going on here, lokum for breakfast???" They told us that the tourists just love it. A few minutes later we understood that they were right when we saw lots of tourists lined up for lokums.
we don't eat lokum in our everyday lives that much. It's a delicasy we eat/serve to guests at religious holidays (bayram) and some other special occasions. (always with Turkish coffee)

Hahhahaha we (native turks) never eat turkish delight for breakfast. I guess some tourist do though :)

Turkish delight is mostly eaten during visits by family and friends, and during special occasions.

Basic turkish breakfast in the western regions consists of full fat white cheese, olives, olive oil, tomatos, boiled eggs, turkish pepperoni (sucuk) cheese and jam (strawberry or apricot).

They probably put them there to sweeten your day.. :)
No, it's not common to eat turkish delight for breakfast in Turkey, they probably put it there so that tourists who dont know about it will know about it.
I love Turkish breakfast though. Especially the bread, I miss the bread and the pogaca most! :(
Edit @Tatiana: Wow! Yeah, you invented Italian meatballs too.. And arabic coffee.. And EvErYtHiNg that is Russian. :) Yeah... ok..

Qu'est ce que tu pense?
No, it's not common to eat Turkish delight for breakfast. Most of the time, people will eat them after a meal, such as lunch or dinner, as a dessert.

Allan D is GAME OVER
I've heard that they even stuff the turkey with some turkish delights, and also they have the turkish delight soup, and even a turkish delight kebab...That's really weird, ha?

No. It's probably only because you're in the "British tourist" area which they attend to the British needs/wants. Turkish Delight is a British invention and has nothing to with Turkey.

It's kinda like French Fries in America. It has nothing to do with France.....
