take a little money in lira.
turks love euros sterling or us dollars.
you can use you credit or debit cards anywhere so don't take too much currency as you will get a better exchange rate when in turkey itself |

Take a small amount of Lira with you to pay for buses, taxis etc and then change your money up as and when you need it. I found that some restaurants will change money for you at much better rates than you can get in the hotel or exchange bureau. Just ask the waiter. |

There are so many exchange places in Istanbul and they will change the money more worth then your country but make sure you have some enough T.L with you to take you to your hotel or whereever. |

Personally, I always wait till I arrive in Turkiye before changing any money at all.
There are exchange places at the airport and more often than not they are open 24 hrs, if you dont see anyone, knock on the window, theres usually a man asleep somewhere.
Most places will take euro, dollars and sterling, but keep in mind that they wont give you a good rate, especially out of bank hours.
I would not recommend travellers cheques, not everywhere will change them up.
Change up as you need it, remember the rates change daily. I found the post office (PTT) or the change offices have the best rates.
Have a good trip. |

It depends on where your from its best to change a little in your hometown and then change the rest here in turkey as the exchange rate is normally better you will need turkish lira but dont worry they will accept other currencys but best to use the lira. |

I have written this before ...just the other day...
money is money which ever currency it is...
Euros, Dollars, Or even GBP are greatly accepted so either is fine. but the local currancy is the YTL ( turkish liras ) Change your currency as needed at the dovis ( change office bureau )
I don't recommend travellers checks to Turkey they are a hassle and also charge a service fee to cash them at the banks. A lot of hotels will not accept. Better with dollars, or euros or better yet use the ATM's.
At most times the ATM's are everywhere...even at the airport upon your arrival...you can draw out turkish liras there...
Also advise about money...another thing that gets sticky..is about the quaility of the bills..try not to bring any bills of foreign currency that is ripped or damaged in anyway..
Exchange some of your foriegn currancy to Liras at a change offices in Turkey. But don't exchange at the airport wait until you can get to a change office you will get a better price. As you will need some Liras to pay for small items to the markets, taxis etc. Small places probably not take Euros or dollars. Most of the changes offices are located in the center of town and I am sure that the hotel will give you some help or directions.
Just some advise about using ATM's.....
One thing I would just like to point out is if you use a ATM please use one that is located outside of a national bank and also during regular business hours. Mon-Fri 9-5.
This way if you experience any problems with your card you can directly report it at the bank. Also do make sure that you advise your bank of your planned travel to Turkey. If not the bank after a transaction or two may freeze your card after one or two transactions. |

if you wish to buy expensive products, ie carpets, leather goods, gold etc. you'll find they will only deal in euros, sterling or dollars... take some travellers cheques as well.... |
