Turks what is more important to you your religion islam or your country?

I know that there are no stupid questions in theory but you're making me doubt that.

Especially on a subject like this you cannot reunite all of Turks. I'd say that most of them like Kursat, those that do believe in Islam, do not make a distinction between nation and religion. Not to mention the fact that you're comparing apples to oranges.

But like Keyser said this country is Christians', Jews', Pagans' and Atheists' country too. For non-believers like us, this question is easily answered, our country is more important but that's because you didn't give us an alternative option.

Our country is a secular state meaning every single person living here has the right to choose his religion. If it ceases to be one then it is not our country anymore as it does not support the principles on which it was founded on, it will become another country, a new country set on the same land and there will be no point in discussing this because it will not be ours.

And that's my patriotical two cents.

I am a believer of god and according to me country is more important because without a real country which you belong in , you cannot practice your own religion as you please freely.

If there is a choice to be made, then mine is my country. I choose the answer "country" just like any other guy from any other country would; not because I am a "super patriot". I was born in here, I grew up here, and most probably I will die here. My country is important because it is my home, it is where my beloved ones live. Had I been born in another country, I would love there as much as I do here. While I would not say that a person's country is the most important thing in his/her life, among these two, it is the one that has a meaning for me (not to mention I do not believe in religion).

I don't think I should even have to choose between the two, because our only goal was to not have to choose between the two when we became a SECULAR country!!
my moral ideals come, ofcourse, before my country and I am sure anyone who is not a brain-washed fanatic would say the same thing...

When growing up ur taught to love both very much in turkish culture.RELIGION will take you to an everlasting life after death.And ur country is who you are and what you are.I dont think we would ever have to chose but if i was to then my anscestors,army,ottomon empire gave their lives for their country and religion so the country and religion can be passed on so it wont be buried under soil.Since when u think of it religion is more important because when thinking of it religion =never ending life in the after world.Where country is only for this world.bUT this does NOT mean that i dont love my country TRUST me turkish people would be the last to hate or say something bad about their country.

There is a common question in Turkey, If you saw when your country and your religion got drown at the same time , which one do you save first from dying ? my answer is clear , I kill myself . since they are both the most important thing for me and I think most of muslim Turkish people think like me.

I would say that being religious, atheits or whatever does not matter, what i see is that people living in Turkey being Turkish or arab or kurdish or whatever do really not care about what the believe or not and do not care about the country they are living, everything is done to get their personal benefit with out caring how much are they hurting their neighbours or their enviroment. For instance regarding politics we can see that every one is hungry of power be it leftist party, religious etnical party, nationalits party..in this elections everyone was criticizing the party on power or another party but we never heard about politic plataforms or developing projects from anybody we just hear crap..and i ask myself It is the way we want Turey to grown up?... the other day i saw and answer saying that the party on goverment is cutting founds on education so that people will not be educated and will keep ignorant so that this party will keep on power.. and i asked myself well I saw that this year several universities were opened in far east cities like hakkarı and few people applied to work there, or what about Tuncelli? you can check in memur.com how many offerment there are for working in that kind of places and does people are really interested in working there?....no! everybody is protesting in Istambul university because they want possitions be oppened for them in Istambul or Izmır or Ankara..but why do not they applied in East universities? of course everyone is thinking about themself (give my right in Istambul i do not care about applying my profession in other places where i am nedeed!)..and if you doubht about that check how many associated profesors are working as an assitant profesors or how many full profesors are working as an asociated profesors in Western universities just for the sake of living in West and they do not want to go to East and do their job in with the reall title they got?..and i do not want a talk about medical doctors, teachers who do not want to go to rural schools but prefer to get free money in Ankara!..and what about enviromental pollution!!! yesterday while i was walking around my neighborhood wich is plenty of forest areas i saw that the big problem of this freaking city is the lack of enviromental education of people, every were there were hundreds of plastic bags!!! big forest garbage and it supposed educated people lives here! do they care about their neighborhood, about their city? noooo they may have their home bright of cleaness but as soon the go out and close the door of their home they forget that their home is the city or Turkey they have to trhow out everithing on the streets!!! ..DO THEY CARE ABOUT WHAT THEİR BELİEVE SAYS OR THEİR PHİLOSOPHY OR DO THEY REALLY CARE ABOUT THEİR NATİON??? NOOOOOOO! As my husband always say about turkish religious people, their said is always :"Rabbıma hep bana"!, and when it comes to Atatürk lovers or secularist: they just use Atatürk as a Trade Mark because the ideology of Mustafa Kemal Atatürk has been forgotten, they just use the flag of Atatürk to get as much as they can for themselfs with out consider their own Nation...
So what i can see and i feel frustrated is that loving Turkey or loving an ideology or non ideology does not matter, the only thing that matters is to get as much as they can with out hesitate if someone steps on the right of the others or more even, if people hurts their own Nation or their own ideology.

I am not Turkish but I've been living in this beautiful country for more than 10 years now.Anyway, I want you to know that this is a very 'generalized' question.Did you know that there are more than 70 million people lives in this country so as you may also appreciate that it vary from one person to another.However as I have noticed that the Turks (at least most of them) are secular and they don't really care if you have a different religion therefore it makes sense that the most important thing for a Turk is the country

Ankara is a beautiful city and I don't think we have ever met because omg this city is huge.I believe you are afraid to confess to yourself that this is the most beautiful city you've ever seen in your life.I understand your feelings though, please just trust in yourself and you will admit that no matter "how and when" "for better or for worse" you will see the light and you will thank me later
