Vacation in Greece?

I really want to go to Greece this summer. I don't want to stay at a resort or a glitzy hotel, I want to see the country in all it's beauty and truly experience it, but I don't speak any Greek. For those of you who really know Greece, where can I go and stay that is not too urban, where it's not very densely populated, but that I can get by without speaking any Greek? My inspiration is the village Oia (which I have heard described as "the most beautiful village in Greece"), if you have heard of it. It just sounds so beautiful. Any info would be appreciated. Thanks a lot.

This summer Greece is gonna be dangerous for foreign tourists.
The terrorism is increasing - anarchists, communists, and now EPEK (Е.П.Е.К.) on Crete, frightening tourists by clockworks and land mines !
This year I would skip that destination.

No matter where you go in Greece, you don't need to speak Greek,as people are very helpful, and lots of people speak English, and if they do not, then they will always be willing to find someone that do speak English to assist you. I suggest go for one of the islands.I do not know Village Oia,but if you do not manage to get there,I am sure that you will find a village just as nice.

asimenia
Oia is on the island of Santorini - It is beautiful - especially as you approach from the sea (via ferry) however in my opinion this is not an example of 'true Greek life' it is an island that depends on toursim - wherever tourism is the main source of income - you can be sure 'true Greek life' has been adapted to the foreigners.

True Greece is Epirus (or Iprius)
Where tourism is not depended on.
This is where I live

(although touristy in August) you only have to travel up the to the mountain villages to see a completely different life! Parga is also beautiful

Nothing prepares you for the mountain villages in Epirus! It's like a trip back in history! Nothing at all like coastal towns!

The village of Oia is apparentely full of homosexuals, so if your into that kind of stuff you will fit right in. I hope you enjoy your stay there.

Athina
I travelled trough whole Greece and last summer I was looking for just the stuff you described! I do speak greek, but on the tour I took, I didnt need it - for example I was in Kefalonia island in a hotel owned by a girl from NY. I booked trough friends and some I find online, but all three plaecs where I went turned out to be fantastic. I was in Lefkas, Kefalonia, and Zakynthos islands.
Feel free to join my group on facebook, called "Hellas!- natural wonders&unique spirit", I put some pics, and if you want I can give you phones of this plaecs where I stayed.

Tony knows alot about homosexuals he led the "Maza" float in the mardi gra representing all the closet gay macedonians. Good to hear you have come out of the closet finally. lol must feel really good now to talk openly about your sexuality, you have made your parents proud. I'd give you a thumbs down but we all know where you like to have that thumb ^.
