Haarlem is a great quaint little town outside of Amsterdam if you're traveling via the city. Personally though I can't help but argue that you should go into Amsterdam itself if you haven't been there before. In my opinion it is one of the greatest cities. So friendly, great place to rent a bike and go see the sights. Wonderful museums, parks, oldest zoo on continental europe, hotels and restaurants... I could go on, but if you're not into that sort of stuff then I guess you're just not into it. The experience of riding your bike around the city is worth the trip in itself. There aren't that many places that are so biker friendly. Maybe you have to be a bike fan, I don't know.
Trust me on Haarlem though.
Cheers.

Utrecht is not bad, it's one of the smaller cities.

how did you go to maastricht? and from where?
its not so far away. there are not alot cities who will be the same as maastricht but if you liked Maastrich you will probably like: Den Bosch, Groningen, Leeuwarden, Delft,Gouda and Amersfoort.. you might like The hague..

personally I would go for Rotterdam or Eindhoven

pam d
You should try Delft, it's a very beautiful town with a great market on Saturday, with lots to see. last year was my forth year to visit Delft.

I liked in Holland for some months and I just love it!If you want a more calm place go to Arnhen, Deventer, Zwolle, Utrecht...
those places are nice and not that busy like Amsterdam and Rotterdam...
I think you'll like it!

If you are traveling via Hull or Harwich why not head to the east of the Netherlands (easy via A15 or A12), to Arnhem or Nijmegen (Less than two hours drive). Plenty to do and see in both, and unusual for most of the Netherlands, Nijmegen, the country's oldest city, is built on high ground overlooking the busy River Waal. Both places have plenty of Hotels and/or B and B, and both are very close to the German border.
As well as this, both cities are associated with the film “A bridge too far” (Operation Market Garden).
