We are able, but I don't think it's interesting enough.
I don't want my country to obey orders or laws voted by a foreign entity, even if my country would participate the assembly of this union. |

Turkey does NOT need to join and I believe most of turkish people has the same feeling as me. The reason is europe has playing so much politic games on Turkey to not to join E.U. but one day E.U. will regret of panishing Turkey all the time and Turkey will join the E.U. as still very powerfull country as on it,s own |

It is not a matter of if , it's a matter of when,
Every thing put a side , weather Turkey is not in Europe or not or whether she is a Islam state , or weather Turkey is some 10 years behind the G 8 or if you like super powers .
they are all irrelevant don't mean a thing ,
It has all to do with greed in the E U , most country's ie France, Germany, Spain,Austria, Holland, and a few more who cannot give up little of the huge sums of euros they are fleecing off the other members . to wards setting up Turkey as a member , because Turkey would require finances to start Churning out a full production of her mighty power to supply rest of the community with their needs , as Turkey is the one who every member will be looking up to for a support, |

Who cares it ? I don't...
Turkey already is the one the biggest 20 economical power of the World... We will continue to climbing upper lines. We have one of the best armies of world. We enough for ourselves for economically and militarily... That means if Turkey does not join EU, EU will lost the opportunity of being super power of the World.
If so, let us them EU to think a little more on the subject... |

Hi Caner,
I believe, Someday, we will be able to join EU.
Not today, not Tomorrow ...
Maybe between 10-15 years later
We must be work very hard, it is our aim ...
Take Care and Happy New Year |

Whats wrong with Turkey itself to prevent joining EU? Of course nothing, it all depends on the situations.
If Turkey be afraid of reforms neither will join EU nor will improve. I mean both the elites and the public. Elites have more effect on it.
For improvement, there should be criticizing to find out the problems. As much as criticizing is considered "insulting" hope for that is useless.
Yesterday Turkey - before Gul's presidency - I think was eager to improve, in fact was looking forward to the West.
Today Turkey - dominant AK Party - acts in 2 different ways and I think is more interested in East.
Mr. Erdogan has acted in great paradox in some issues:
For example Kurds. During elections AK was representing itself very moderate toward Kurds but after gaining the power decided to attack northern Iraq immediately.
These has made EU suspicious over Turkey: Is Turkey reliable or not? Is Turkey eager to move to EU or not? Which side is Turkey moving to? East or West?
Another question is about Turkey-Iran relations that are getting deeper. Everyone knows that every state is interested in developing good economical ties with neighbors regardless to the ideology there. But in this case there is a question:
Is it pure economical? In fact, there was a major change in Iran's position on Kurds.
PKK and Kurds are considered no harm for Iran because of many reasons that is out of subject to mention.
But Iran, somehow, helped Turkey. Is the Turkey-Iran tie getting strategic? Is there any tie between Islamist Party in Turkey and Islamic government in Iran?
Besides, Turkey has denied US and EU demand for sanctions against Iran for the unclear nuclear activities and stands aside Iran.
This is very important and meanwhile unclear. In fact, the answer of this question - as an instance - is important to see which direction Turkey is moving to.
Other questions are Cyprus, the genocides in Ottoman times, human rights for minorities which remain not only unresolved but also undiscussed by the Turkish side.
Now, Turkey and EU, both, have reduced speed and amount of talks for joining.
It all depends on how Turkey will gain European trust. A real modern and progressed Turkey will be good for everyone. |

Hopefully no. The people of Europe have spoken loud and clear and will keep it out.
The faceless beauracrats in Brussels in Prague will try hard to get Turkey in though, no doubt. |

do you think that it is a big deal to join the european comunity?
I dont think so...
ask all the european citizens and they will tell you their opinions...
the poor became more poor, the rich richer, and all the prices up..
just for a red passport?come on...
I dont think that being european citizen is a big thing,honestly... |

Islamic Turkey will never join christian Europe. Not Benedict but citizens of most countries , if asked, would overwhelmingly say no. And Turkey is about 50 years behind in understanding what freedom for everybody (Kurds , Armenians) means.Police brutality , intolerance on the increase...Turkey should join Turkmenistan. |

If we look at a broader, more general view, there are definitely some merits to a larger, wider political, economic and cultural unions. For one thing, the threat of war among the member is diminished. The dynamic of the EU as opposed to USA is precisely the fact that it can expand peacefully. The US can only expand through conflict. |
|

The Babe is Armed!

Turkey (the country) will be able to join the EU when it decides that joining the EU is more important than its sovereignty over its own affairs.
EU (the union) suggestions for Turkey are less than reasonable right now, so I don't see Turkey (the country) pursuing the trade between the benefits and the deficits of joining. |

I don't know if it will be good or bad for Turkey to join, I think it will be good, mostly because the EU will help her with internal issues on politics, human rights, finance, culture, and external, like international relations etc. But regarding the attitude of some answerers, who say Turkey is better alone than part of the EU, then why has she applied anyway? We have a saying: "whatever the fox can't reach, she says it is no good". Do you think perhaps you do injustice to your country by thinking this way? If you accept that EU will be good for Turkey, that will help Turkey make changes and develop in a way that will benefit her.
For those who gave me thumbs down: my answer only has TURKEY's best interst in mind, honestly. I really don't know if it will be in Greece's interest if Turkey joins the EU, so my answer is what I believe having Turkey's good in mind. If you also care for your country, you must think critically too. |
