Its because they cannot criticise anyone else, if they criticise Africa they are racist, if they criticise Russia it could cause a nuclear war, they can`t criticise Asia since Asians are prefect in every way beating Americans at school, they can`t criticise Arabs since this might spark a holy war. And they can`t criticise south America since they would cut their drug supply. So they only people left to criticise are Europeans. But on a serious note take it as compliment, many times people criticise others because they cannot beat them or be better so they try and bring them down to their level by making them look bad.

You started on a very touchy subject here. Firstly, Americans from the southern states generally hate to be refered to as 'Yank'. Secondly, not every American criticizes Europe. As for Americans thinking everyone bashes them too, it's not true. Some people are just ignorant, and before you received the answers to this, I would say you were too. I hate to see people getting so hot-headed over this. It's a horrible thing to see, to very close working communities, divided by little misconceptions. I was born and raised in New York, but moved to Ireland 5 years ago. I love both America & Europe equally. Just let it go people. You're going to meet ignorant people at every turn in life. You just have to take a deep breath and deal with it. Don't over react. As long as the wider communty knows that we're all equal and on the same footing in life, what does it matter. Peace people, peace.

Not all American criticize Europeans. Many agree with or sympathize with the European perspective but the media only plays on the contrast and emphasizes that aspect. How many Americans have you met?

Wow, you need to calm down. You are being very hypocritical and sterotyping Americans for sterotyping Europeans! Yes there are the "Ugly American" stererotypes that some Americans live up to, but not all of Americans are like that! There are Americans who love different cultures and travel and who are respectful of others and their countries. I was born and raised in the U.S. and I love Europe. I lived in Europe for a year. Do you know how many Europeans think that EVERYONE in the U.S voted for Bush? I didn't and it drove me crazy knowing that there are people out there that think that all Americans are the same. I think that you have a lot of learning to do and shouldn't be so quick to judge others. Stop basing your views on stupid people you have met, or the idiots posting on Yahoo or watching the media (which is very biased). I think that you need to immerse yourself in other cultures to get a better perspective! You will find some good Americans out there.

Whoa there. I am not American but you have just condemned an entire nation in one fell swoop! All yanks do not criticise Europe. Plenty of them live in Europe. BTW, sorry americans but we say yanks and mean all americans, we don't know about the north/south thing. (We being the rest of the world.)

Also, whats this about 17 million 'invading' your countries? I have never known a nation to knock back the tourist dollar.
