Did u heard this song? Istanbul (Not Constantinople) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Istanbul_(Not_Constantinople)
.. here the lyrics.
Istanbul was Constantinople
Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Now it's Turkish delight on a moonlit night
Every gal in Constantinople
Lives in Istanbul, not Constantinople
So if you've a date in Constantinople
She'll be waiting in Istanbul
Even old New York was once New Amsterdam
Why they changed it I can't say
People just liked it better that way
So take me back to Constantinople
No, you can't go back to Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Why did Constantinople get the works?
That's nobody's business but the Turks
Istanbul (Istanbul)
Istanbul (Istanbul)
Even old New York was once New Amsterdam
Why they changed it I can't say
People just liked it better that way
Istanbul was Constantinople
Now it's Istanbul, not Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Why did Constantinople get the works?
That's nobody's business but the Turks
So take me back to Constantinople
No, you can't go back to Constantinople
Been a long time gone, Constantinople
Why did Constantinople get the works?
That's nobody's business but the Turks
Istanbul
.. hope helps.

Well, yes, Konstantinopoli, Konstantiniyye, stin poli, İslambol, İstanbul...
But I don't know what the 8000 year old port town recently found was called.
The name Konstantinopoli only covers the old İstanbul part within the city walls (all the rest were small towns that were caught up in the expansion of the city) and the old city is only 1700 years old, the last 550 years being a part of the Ottoman Empire. |

It was Constantinople a very long time ago. The Greeks though still refer to it as such, they never call it Istanbul. |

it was actually alot of things
Istanbul was a land for many civilizations but eventually fatih sultan mehmet of the Ottoman empire became victorious using oiled wood tracks so the ships actually climb a hill & then get back to the water since konstantin had used huge chains to block the waters
in sultanahmet today people want to build a metro network but the problem is the minute theystarted digging they found what was left of an ancient civilization
au contraire to fyro who loves to abuse us turks here
honestly even tho I live i istanbul I dont really know all the civilizations that lived here so youre gonna have to trust wikipedia
by the way its not constantinople (thats the anglo way of saying it)
its originally konstantinopolis |

When the city was first built by the Greeks, it was called Vyzantion. It was a colony of Megara.
Then, it was called Konstantinoupolis, which means Konstantinou Polis: the city of the emperor Constantine the Great.
Istanbul means ''is tin polin'' : ''to the city'' in Greek.
The city was only one: the Polis. No other city in the Byzantine Empire was so famous and prestigious. |

Why is there a conspiracy saying otherwise?
Cemtampa- Istanbul is not Turkish, it's also Greek it means "to the city" or "in the city". |

Yes, it was. And before that, it was Vyzantion, a Megaric colony (Megara is a town near Athens).
Actually Vyzantion was a location close to the city, that was also called 'second Roma'. |

Yes, it was. The name of the city officially changed from Constantinople to Instabul in 1930.
Chronologically, It was the capital of the Roman Empire (330-395), the Eastern Roman Empire (395-1204), the Latin Empire (1204-1261), the Eastern Roman Empire (1204-1453) and the Ottoman Empire (1453-1922).
Since 1923, it has been the biggest city of the Republic of Turkey but not the capital city. Nowadays, it is a transcontinental city, which is located in both Asia and Europe. In the past it was located only in Europe. |

Istanbul WAS Constantinople. Now it's Istanbul, it WAS Constantinople. It's been a long time gone, Constantinople. The real question is why Constantinople got the works. |
