Were Armenians actually indigenous Anatolians?

As far as I know, according to Armenians, Turks are invaders from Central Asia while they were native Anatolians and the kingdom of Urartu emerged around the Lake Van in eastern Turkey was an Armenian Kingdom.

So, my question is "Were Urartians really Armenians?"
and "Are there not any consanguinity between the Turks of today and the earlier Anatolian civilizations?"

There are no common cultural traits between the Urartu civilization and Armenians.

They are not of same language family. Armenian is a Indo European language. Urartu is Ural Altaic, along with Turkish, Finnish and Hungarian.

Turks can claim to have common ancestry with the Urartus. That is seriously worth studying. But when Armenians claim to have come from Urartus, it does not hold.

EDIT: Today the Urartian history is no longer a mystery due to the findings of numerous archeological excavations. So it is really unacademical to accept the myths written by Moses of Khorene (an early Armenian historian). Those are even rejected by many Armenian historians.

I know people don't like to discuss Armenian issues here any more, but I feel compelled to give my opinion anyway.

In my opinion claiming that an ancient empire was your direct ancestor is too far fetched. So I believe Armenian official claim that they are descendents of the Urartus (Uraltu should be a better term, I guess), therefore can lay claim on ancient Urartu lands is too unrealistic. They should see that similar claims can be made by many other people about the same lands, i.e. Iran for Persian Empire, Italy for Roman Empire, MoÄŸolistan for the conquests of Cengiz Han.

I invite people to visit any museum in Turkey that exhibits the history of Anatolian Civilizations. They will see that there are periods of culture, some of which are Hittite, Roman, Greek, Selçuk and Ottoman, and that the history of the land doesn't belong to one culture, one ethnicity, one people.

That said, the people of Modern Turkey ARE the children of these lands genetically and culturally. Culture doesn't come out of the blue and it doesn't vanish completely when a new ruler comes, either. The Turkic clans migrated into Anatolia and became the dominant force, and the proto-Turkish peoples of Anatolia, when they converted to Islam, started to regard themselves Ottoman and then Turkish.

If claims make things true, I claim my ancestor was a prophet and therefore I should have the same hegemonial rights as others who have claimed prophetical parentage before me. Ask me how. :)

Edit: "The name Urartu comes from Assyrian sources: the Assyrian king Shalmaneser I (1263-1234 B.C.) recorded a campaign in which he subdued the entire territory of "Uruatri"."

So we can say Assyrians of Anatolia (Süryani) can claim they come from Urartus. Would Armenians accept their claim to Anatolia. :D

I just LOVE the history of my country. So rich and colourful!

Yes.

As much as I know Urartu civilization belonged to Armenians, Assyrians and also Caucasians.
So the Urartu was a civilization of Aryans and Semitic tribes, after it's decline each ethnic group formed it's distinct identity and civilization.
That's what I know, in brief.
And yes, Armenians were indigenous Anatolian, but not the only ones.
Armenians also settled in Caucasus and had their own civilization there from thousand years ago you know, but they were not the only ones.

EDIT:
@ gugu:
I had a question, can we match the dates of Urartu and migration of Turkic tribes to Anatolia and near regions?
How can Urartu be Altaic? When it was 3 millenniums before that?
It's simply a question.

Dr. Beemer
Armenians are descendants or Urartu, like the Turks are descendants of Huns. It is scientifically proven fact. Google and it will give you many links.

Before Turks settled in Anatolia, it was occupied by Armenians and Greeks. One more thing, Kurds are not related to Armenians in any way. First they are Muslims, second their language is much closer to Turkish, and third there is a reason they are called "mountain Turks".

greetings_losers
Urartians were one of the nations that formed Armenians along with Kurds. They have a kinship it's true as far as Ive read. Kurds and Armenians are also relatives.
Turks of Turkey are also consanguineous with Anatolian civilizations. For example middle Anatolians (city of Çorum and around) , by DNA tests, found to be the grandchildren of Hittites. Hittites after a grand catastrophe left their lands but turned back afterwards and carried on living there. Some of these people lost their identity tho some didnt like Laz.

ATTILA
Yes they were living in Anatolia, and also indigenous, but Urartians are not their anchestors. They both don't have any relations and similarities.. IF any nation claims that a nation is their anchestors, living styles, writings, used goods must be ralative.. But Armenia and Urartians aren't related. They Armenians were replaced to their new lands because of their betrayal, at Ottoman Era.. And their only support is Urartian-based theory to come back..

There is no way Turks can
answer this question truthfully.
They have no idea on any ones
history's including their own..
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Armenian_Highland

There is and overwhelming
amount of documented evidence
that proves Armenians and
Urartu are linked, enough so
to at least confirm Armenians
have more rights to make that
claim than Turks which is the
point isn't it?
Hey, according to history,
Turkish people could very well
been the first Chinese people,
and certainly have the rights
to make that claim.
Whom am I to ever argue with
that.
Also those compelled
to answer their
own questions is a type
of behavior that is most often
found in people with
physiological disorders.

ADD: ( In just the action
of the Turkish Government
to erase history and change
it to something more suitable
to their own needs, is enough
proof the Governments intent
was to decieve their own people.
