What's the most expensive European city in terms of tourism?

Just got back from Venice. Very expensive 'cos you're a captive market.

I've also heard Paris is pricey.

According to the Mercer Survey, Moscow is the most expensive city in Europe and in the rest of the world, with a score of 123.9. "Steep accommodation costs have contributed to the city's high ranking, as the recent property boom has driven up rental prices for expatriates," said Anna Krotova, Senior Researcher at Mercer.

London is the second most expensive city in Europe and ranks in 5th position (score 110.6). Other costly European cities include Geneva in 7th place (103), Copenhagen in 8th (101.1) and Zurich in 9th (100.8) - all have been pushed down one place this year. Oslo remains in 10th place with a score of 100 while St. Petersburg is in 12th position (99.7).

Number ONE - LONDON!!! Without any doubt.

LONDON

an example: for the same price of a day ticket on the metro in berlin, you could get from elephant and castle to euston with the underground.

No question on that Oslo Norway 10 bucks a beer and so makes london look like a bargain.

Even more expensive are Moscow and St Petersburg in their top locations, elsewhere very reasonable.

in terms of tourism, Rome is the most expensive city.

Oslo however is the most expensive city in the world to live in.

I lived in Europe this summer and I have to say two expensive cities I know of are Dublin & London. London is ridiculously expensive for no reason.

When you convert your dollars into pounds you begin to realize that the $5 pound sandwich is worth $10. Dublin was expensive food wise, I barely ate while I was there - just light cheap meals. I've heard Switzerland is also quite expensive, probably more so than London.

azulfi
without any doubt LONDON

?

All of them. In terms of go broke if you don't leave on time. You certainly aren't going to live there, right?

Of all the places I have ever traveled London was a killer for the budget. The tube was insanely expensive. Eating anywhere was crazy. The only thing that was cheep was the National Museum and the Gallary, free actually. Where as Madame Tussand cost 24.99. Was not worth 24.99. I was lucky I stayed with a friend because the hotel prices are rediculous.

I am surprised that people think Copenhagen. I am living in Copenhagen and I don't find it near as expensive as London. Sure you are going to pay a lot for a pint of beer if you want to have it across from Tivoli. That is why I have my pints in my neighbourhood so I pay about half what you pay right down town.

Any place is more expensive in proximity to tourist attractions. Don't have your cappicino right next to the Coliseum, go down some little side street and enjoy it with locals. Far better experience at half the price.

Why hasn't anyone said Dublin yet?

Hotel accommodation is very expensive indeed in London. London is one of the most expensive cities in the world, behind places like Tokyo. And I found that Rome was very expensive for accommodation too (though some other things were quite cheap).

The Scandinavian cities (Oslo, Copenhagen) are notoriosly expensive. Even for a Brit!

London is most expensive due to how strong the Pound is. Basically, you have to double to price of everything you see to convert it to dollars. Im so glad I have friends there so I dont have to pay for lodging or car rental.
