Russia's awesome. Great country, good food, better people - so there's some crime and introductory hostility. The same can be said - in a higher degree, actually - for the US, particularly the larger cities.
I'm Moldovan by nationality and was raised to hate the Russians - but I can't help not to love them and the country. I go every year, against my mom's will, lol.
Would I want to live there? If given the choice between there and Western Europe - no. The choice between Russia and Moldova - um, obviously Russia. But, mostly, it's more of a vacation spot for me - not into the whole Putin being in power, whether indirectly or otherwise, for what seems like a lifetime.
P.S. Lindy, you're a fool - a COUNTRY doesn't traffic women, people and organized crime pools do. Americans traffic women. So do the British, French, and Australians. Judging a country on its U.N. Trafficking Protocol report (but, chances are, you don't even know what that is because you're clearly ignorant and lacking education in the field of trafficking in persons) is close-minded and stupid. Good luck living a sheltered life if you don't plan to visit a country based on their trafficking history! |

It has a long and turbulent history. It has produced some of the world's greatest literature and art. It has gone through some really tough times as well as some amazing glory days. The people are lovely. The food is delicious. The vodka is worth the trip.
Nope...I don't have any complaints about Russia or its people. I suppose I might have answered differently prior to 1989, but I grew up with the "threat" of the USSR. Americans were fed plenty of propaganda, too, believe me! |

I love Russia. It is one of the most amazing countries I know. But there are bad sides to it. I remember one day in Moscow I was walking around and I found a dead body on the sidewalk. Trust me, dead, not drunk. And the government is awful and corrupt, but the people there, once you get to know them, are so friendly and accommodating. |

I've been a few times... it is quite bleak outside the cities, but Moscow and St Petersburg are quite amazing.
Some of the greatest minds have come from Russia.
Of all the traveling I've done, Russian women are the most incredible girls I've seen, with Norway next, Poland 3rd and Aus 4th ... thought I should add that in :-) |

As a country, I think it is corrupt, undemocratic and complicated both to live in and to visit.

Sadly, the government is corrupt and undemocratic. However, Russian people are very friendly and welcoming and beautiful. The amazing food, outstanding literature, Russian ballet are one of the best in entire world! |

a serious problems with racism and skinheads was mentioned by Emmet K i guess, absolutely agree. They had loads of famous and devoted people, but unfortunately it was in past. they make wrong decisions and are not afraid a bit, brave coz they have big country with big population. Quality that's what matters not Quantity! |

I'm Irish. It looks like politically you're just going round in circles with Putin (a bit like Italy and Berlusconi) and it's worrying that there are ex-KGB men in politics. Your country is really interesting and some of the architecture is amazing. It looks like there are huge problems with racism and skinheads. I didn't like the look of the conflict with Georgia last year; it's like Russia thinks it still runs Georgia! Also, closer to home, I'm p*ssed off that you spilled a sh*tload of oil in our sea and then took off home to Russia with no explanation. |

Russia gets me kinda annoyed. They think that they are so powerful and can come to America thinking that they're gunna over-rule us with their growing population. It's SO annoying to me because when i'm walking down the street, they always bump into me and start yelling at me!! wtf?!
