What are Russian men really like? Are they as crude as the stereotype?

You always hear that russian guys are alcoholics and mistreat their women and that's why the women try to find western men..is that true?

To be honest with you--alcohol and cigarettes are really popular among Russian men. Guys from Russia--- let's face the facts. I am a doctor and I know the statistics on smoking and alcohol abuse. This s..t is a disease in Russia. I met American men because I spent some time in States. There is truly a difference! Not only they are a lot healthier but also many treat women differently-- Russian men are IMMATURE---they expect women to be their second mothers. Brrr!!!!
So many Russian men are immature -- can't even cook a decent lunch-- and are smokers and every-week-beer-drinkers. Another thing about Russian men--they don't care about their health---they drive drunk, they speed a lot, they eat a bunch of cholesterol and salt-rich stuff and they don't get enough exercise--that's why they die so soon. And you know what? It is considered not
men-like to care about your health. It is considered sooo cool to drink a lot of vodka. A lot of Russian men consider simple personal hygiene like manicure or pedicure or a GAY thing. Even the smart ones. Even with a PhD. Even big old academics. Of course, there are exceptions. For example, if I did not meet my sweetest husband:)))--I would probably marry a Western guy.

Don`t believe CNN and BBC.Russian guys are educated and kind, good family persons

Well, I don't know anything about Russian stereotypes but in my point of view, I think they are nice. I once had a crush in this russian guy when I was in 8th grade and he was really friendly. He has a sense of humor and he seems sweet.

Well I am a Western Woman (Canadian) who is married to a Russian guy so I think I have a unique perspective on this. Let me start by saying that my husband is a wonderful, loving husband. Through him I have met many cool Russian guys that I have also become friends with. That said I have observed that the culture does tend to be some what masogenistic, even according to my dear husband. Even for him I think it is sometimes a struggle to be in a relationship with a willful western woman but we work through it. I think there is a serious problem with alcoholism in Russia, maybe more so then in other places and that there are a lot of Russian men (more in the rural areas) who don't respect women in the way we as a western culture would expect. The bottom line is there are all kinds from all places and you can't write all of them off. If I had I wouldn't have met my soulmate. Russia has gone through some had times and that has made both men and women hard as a way of coping. Sometime you just have to work throught that to see the real person, eh.

There are good and bad people in every culture/nationality/religion. Russian men are no exception to this rule.

I have met quiet a few great Russian guys who were intelligent, witty, good looking and kind. I have also met quiet a few that were smokers, heavy drinkers, disrespectful of me and women in general, and, on occasion, displayed violence. So I think it's safe to say that one shouldn't stereotype and say "All Russian men are alcoholics and wife beaters" and realize that it simply depends on what kind of individual you ran into.

Hoplite
Russian guys are very smart, friendly and they like fun. In the west they have the image that you speak about because they are not spoilted like the americans. The best of them are the russian patriots.

Some ex soviet countries women wanna marry with western men for various reasons, one reason is the rule that every woman on earth follows "find a man with money".

ps. Some of them are heavy drinkers but thats far more better than the american drug users.

I wish people would stop relying on stereotypes. lol thats like saying all american men are lazy redneck fatasses. However, as with all generalizations, you will find people that fit the category. Yes, I am sure that there are alcoholics and men that mistreat women, but aren't there in any country? It really depends on the person, I must say, and on the class of people, and on the education they have recieved. You would be more likely to find the stereotypical men as factory workers, police men, or in the military. Those are the professions that they choose without going to college. However, university educated doctors, lawyers, and business people would most likely be on a different level.

Russian women seek out western (especially american) men because they belive in the stereotype that all americans are rich, have mansions, and drive fancy cars just like in the movies.

Men in Russia are drinking too much, it's true. Another negative thing -- they cheat. And I mean they cheat a lot. There are hardly any family morals left in Russia. There are exceptions, though, nobody denies. But, overall, the stereotypes are correct, as much as depressing it may sound.

Masha T
I'm Russian. And I have had more boyfriends from other countries than from my own.
The reason is that here are a lot of beautiful girls. And if I like someone, for sure he'll be either married or an asshole. In general, men are spoiled by girls' attention and a lot of them stop taking care of themselves. So by 25 they will have beer belly and ugly butt.
I travel a lot. And meet a lot of guys from all over the world. I don't do it on purpose, but Isralians turn out to be the best
