concrete, brick and terracotta shingles |

The structure is made of concrete (from the foundations until the roof). We hardly used metal, and we never use timber for the structure.
The walls are made of brick. There are loads of bricks, but this kind is the most used. (check image to see the kind of brick we use)

The wall construction system used is cavity wall, and they are rendered.
As for the finishes, we use all sort of materials: timber, PVC, tiles, plastic paint, etc, etc, etc. Sometimes, we use concrete as a finishing too.
EDIT:
vinnieocat, British construction is very different from Portuguese or European construction, thus it doesn't surprise me this person is asking this question. For instance, they hardly use concrete except for foundations, the structure is either in metal work or timber and finishes are also slightly different. So, I see no harmful intention in this question. |

I'm with Portuguese Doll on this one - construction methods very different from the UK in terms of materials, finishes, insulation etc. Totally valid question to ask. There are some websites out there and books about moving to Portugal that would most likely say something about that. |

The inside doors houses in Portugal mostly are made of good sincere and work people. Outdoors they are not different of the rest of the world except unfortunately on the countries named the third world. |

That's a funny but valid question. it has already been explained how they are built but i think i can give more information.
The more modern apts and houses are very well prepared for the summer. the floors the to be cool and made of tiles or several types of stone. the windons are different from what you would find in the UK. they fully open (normally sideways) and we have blinds that are built-in. Having said the houses are well prepared for the summer~, they're not so for the winter. generally only ppl that live up north (where is colder) prepare their houses for the cold winter snaps, ice and sometimes snow.
