The red lights district is great to have a look at, but I wouldnt want a hotel directly in the district, its noisy and lots of drunken ppl (read men) about at night.
There are lots of hotels to chose from which are 5 - 15 mins walk away from the red lights district.
I've put a link below where you have a good selection of hotels, I use this site a lot for all kinds of weekend trips and think you get the best deals there, also you can click on map and you see exactly where the hotel is situated.
For your orientation, the red lights district is on the Oudezijdse Achterburgwal.
You can also go to www.google.nl and type in "hotels amsterdam" and all kinds of websites come up (and they are either in English anyway or there will be an english options you can click on). |

All starred Amsterdam hotels are hygienic, they are heavily reliant on return tourism.
There is a 4/5 star hotel directly facing the train station which is superb, sorry I can't remember the name.
The red light district is not a seedy place in general, it is quite upmarket. |

(was a city hall of Amsterdam before - where the Queen Beatrix got married long time ago).

If you do not mind paying the big bucks and if you like extremely great rooms and upscale service (lotsa celebs stay here) you have to chose for THE GRAND,
It is ON the same canal as the red light district but on the other side. VERY nice neighborhood/ quiet and just a hop from all the action. but once more you gotta pay the price...
enjoy

There are so many hotels in Amsterdam, it`s hard to tell.
General guidelines.
- The more stars, the higher the price. Best value in my opinion is 3-star hotels.
- The closer to the center (Red Light is IN the center) the higher the price.
- Book in advance will mean saving some cash, but on occasion just walking in will get you a nice price as well. You know how lucky you are, so you decide.
Enjoy your stay |

I was in Amsterdam 4 months ago and I stayed at the Hotel Royal Taste. The staff was very nice and its very centrally located. I think I paid 50Euro / night.
