Poland is a big central European country, located upon the Vistula, Oder and the Baltic Sea. Beautiful nature, historical monuments, respect for traditions, intriguing modern times, and hospitality are those elements that make our country very attractive for foreign visitors. The omnipresent modernity of contemporary Poland goes hand in handwith full respect for traditions and cultural differences of its regions.
Polish landscape is very diversified. The south is occupied by the Carpathian and Sudeten Mountains. Lowlands and uplands stretch throughout central Poland. The northern part of the country with its Masurian and Pomeranian landlakes is slightly rolling, well forested and dotted with thousands of lakes. The sandy beaches of the Baltic coast are found further north.
Our eventful history and the central location in Europe, where influences of many nations and faiths meet, make Poland a country that fascinates visitors with its material and spiritual culture.
Big Polish cities are the main destination for many tourists. They possess a wealth of historical monuments, host famous people and offervariety of events. Polish cities are visited by businessmen and shoppers, and sometimes just play the role of an attractive stopover for travelers on their way elsewhere.
Tour of Poland is a must today. Modern hospitality and recreation facilities, cozy pensions and private rooms, campsites, mountain refugesand youth hostels, riverside marinas, water sports gear for hire, golf courses and many other top attractions are awaiting those who have chosen Poland as their destination.

Except for the stereotypical answers from a few dicks, pretty much what everyone said. Besides the infamous Auschwitz, there are clubs, and there are beautiful waterfalls, forests, historical landmarks and beautiful mountain ranges in the south. Rich history and even violent times.

Since you are only going to be in Poland for one week and you are staying near Poznan in the Greater Poland region, I will not go into the many natural and cultural tourist attractions across the whole country. I have always wanted to go to Poznan because it is an ancient metropolis that served as the original Polish capital along with nearby Gniezno. One specific place I have wanted to go to is the cathedral in Poznan where the first several rulers/kings of Poland are entombed. Also, I believe the reconstructed archaeological settlement of Biskupin is somewhere close to Poznan. There is also a national park where the Warta and Odra rivers meet in that area. Other than that, spend some time in Poznan's historic center where I'm sure you will find things to enjoy. |

I live in Poznan right now. I moved from canada to study in university there. I would say deffinatly check out the old square - the huge shopping mall - everywhere you go will be very nice. Go online to check it out but ALSO if your planning on traveling around Poland for a week - I went to warsaw and Lublin and I enjoyed my time there aswel. If you like to club -deffinatly check out Energy2000. Its a famous club in Poland and I loved to party it up there. Poznan is a better feeling and there clubs arent as bad either :)
Enjoy |

Dependant on whether you are going to venture away from Poznan depends on what you could go see and your mode of transport.
For Poznan you have:
Cradle of the Polish State
Hunting Palace - Chopin stayed here "Antonin"
Palace and Park complex "Czerniejewo"
Poland's 1st capital "Gniezno"
Monastic complex "Gostyn"
Poland's oldest town "Kalisz"
Residence in the French renaissance style "Goluchow"
Neo-Gothic castle and dendrological park "Korniak"
Cistercian complex "Lad"
Poland's Largest church "Lichen Stary"
you also have the National Park which spans 10,000 hectares(24,750acres) and is 15km(10miles) outside Poznan
look on www.poland-tourism.pl website and you can request information in booklet leaflet form to be sent out to you, but thats some of the major attractions in the Wielkopolska region :) |

GO TO KRAKOW!!! Screw Poznan!! Krakow has the most things to buy and visit. Go see the Wawel, go to the Sw. Kosciol Mariacki in the square. Also go pay your respects at Auschwitz Birkenau. |

As mentioned before you can got to one of the concentration camps. People visit there for many reasons. For many people it is a graveyard where the ashes of their grandparents/relatives lay and I think that it is something I didn't realise until I got there. The ashes of a lot of these people or part of their ashes are still in the area.
There are some people who are into the whole dark tourism thing but these are in the minority in the world, I imagine the bigger concentration camps would attract many of them but this is life. I think some people visit these camps to brag about it but this is silly, it is not one of life's great challenges, it can be very upsetting depending on how much you think about what happened there, imagine yourself there as a prisoner during the winter, little food, brutality, disease, death etc. and it is truly shocking.

Many people answering here have really no idea about Poland. I have visited family many times in Warsaw and enjoyed the city very much. There are the famous Mazuren lakes, Krakow and the concentration camps if you like delusional sicko history.
Here is a website for Poznan:

If you want a great city, rather go to Berlin;) It is only around 2 hours by train from Poz. |

I have been to Poznan, Warsaw, and some other cities. Other than the Nazi camps in the southeast of Poland, I don't believe there are any really stunning tourist type things to do in Poland. Here is what I enjoyed about Poland.
1.) I felt safe the whole time I was there. Even in Warsaw, I can walk the streets at night easily.
2.) The natural beauty was very nice. I arrived in May and there were many Canola fields blooming yellow which was very pretty. You could see them from the airplane.
3.) The Polish people are very nice to talk to.
In other words, don't expect a lot of tourist things. Just enjoy Poland for Poland and its people. |
