I am reading "Secrets of the Gem Trade" so that is work, not pleasure.
I just finished, "The Plot Against America," by Philip Roth, and "Saving Fish From Drowning" By Amy Tan.
I whole heartily recommend to anyone who hasn't read it, "Everything Is Illuminated," by Johnathan Safran Foer it is hysterical and very sensitive. |

Pharaoh's personal Physician
it is called Ce no he.
i could not find it in English so i am reading it in Farsi, it is such a fascinating book,
how the Dr. Ce no he became the Pharaoh's personal Physician, how he hated the monks back then. during one of his travels he end up in city that they used hot and cold water
separately, he was very surprised when he saw lavatory. when he was a student, he hated the way the monks controlling everything.
his shock and uhhh when he saw first dead body and how they where going to mummify it.
he learned how not to open his mouth when he realize that
Pharaoh had epilepsy disease. they would of buried him alive, so being dr he treated Pharaoh with herbal things.
this Dr. was the first dr that had done brain surgery. (imagine that back then).
and they way he vengeance his lover, how almost she destroyed his life and reputation.
i suggest every one should read this book. |

"These Crazy Turks" (Şu Çılgın Türkler). A history book based on facts and figures that reads like a great adventure story.
It has nothing to do with 'extreme nationalism', nor does it belittle other people. It just tells the incredible, miraculous story of the people of Turkey and Atatürk; how they fought despite all the unfavourable odds. |

I'm reading Vanity Fair by William (forgot his last name), and the book sucks. The only reason I'm reading it is because I finished reading all the good books I brought over from the U.S. The other books I previously read this summer were, Cats Cradle by Kurt Vonnegut (very good), Man without a Country by Kurt Vonnegut (ok), The Time Machine by H.G. Wells (very good), The Wheels of Chance by H.G. Wells (not that great), and my SAT book, which I don't think you'd want to read :-) |
