An interesting people. They manage to be arrogant and humble at the same time. They are very hospitible as their tradition demands. They are extremely opinionated and full of life. They are usually very intelligent and very well-educated, but they don't seem to be very efficient. This is partly because they shrug their shoulders too soon and say, Ti na kanoume? What can we do? They accept things the way they are, no matter how little sense it makes, and tell you you are "thinking too much like an American" if you say that something they think is impossible is actually possible. It's hard not to love them, but at the same time, sometimes they are so frustrating and maddening that you just want to scream.
They carry a bit of a chip on their shoulders about how low they think their country has fallen since being the birthplace of democracy, and will tell you that "your people were living in caves while their people were bulding the Acropolis and writing the Iliad."
Greece is wonderful, and that is due in large part to its people.
I hope this sounds as affectionately put as I mean it. |

Uh.. I don't really know. I studied it's history though, for half a year at school. It's very interesting - well it was a pain in the neck when I studied it. On the other hand it's a nice place to visit! |

everyone has a different perspective. Greece is beautiful. The islands are idylic. Gets to be a bit of a drag after a while. The people u will only get to know if u learn to speak to them in their own language. Same is said for all counries. Ostensibly, Greeks are very freindly but beware. Never trust a Greek baring gifts? Depends on wether u are a female or male. Same result, they want something.
Myself, I find the Greek men as never really grown up. The women, a mystery. Depends on u as well. Where your principles lie?
For a first visit, Athens is a big hot stinky city. The nites are hot and colourful. In the government gerdens there is a nice water fountain to sit under. The ferries to all the islands leave from Pireaus. For my money Crete or corfu are the most interesting. Lots of culture and nite life. |
