What are your thoughts on the following picture? |
Go to google maps and type in the coordinates 35.283498, 33.376572
zoom out, and you'll see that's a pic of a region in Northern Cyprus. I didn't know about it until yesterday, so I'm curious to hear people's impressions (good or bad). |

Really rude its awful i wouldnt stand for that! Its taking a mockery of the cypriots, is basically saying us turks are coming and taking over your country then we are going to mold our flag into the ground which isnt even our soil! They need to f**k back to their own shi**y country |

If you visit Northern Cyprus you will everywhere see turkish flags and signs. This is policy that Turks have since they came to Europe from deep Anatolia and Mongolia: Leaving everywhere their signs in order to convince themselves that the land they took by military force is theirs. Its is a kind of inferiority complex, if you want to explain it with scientific terms. |

I guess it's their way of claiming what they think is their territory....in case the aliens are planning to come and get it. |

It is sad. I have seen it live. It is right opposite to the Greek side, so that it keeps telling Greeks that the other part is occupied by Turkey. It shows the intentions of the Turkish Cypriot side to be provcative about the situation. It is this sort of things that don't let teh Greek-Cypriots trust the Turks of having good will in the negociations about Cyprus. And don't tell me it's just a flag anyone, because I don't know any other border in the world where there is such a thing, not even at the rest of the Turkish borders. |

Image what it feels like to see it live everyday. I am Greek - Cypriot, l lived in Lefkosia for sometime and l had to face this particular sight everyday. No further comments ....the picture says it all.
Also the quote indicated next to the flag...( it's not the original Turkish flag by the way) " Ne mutlu Türküm diyene" by Ataturk which means " What joy to he/she who says , ‘I am a Turk" ( more or less) seems to be one of the most nationalistic mottoes used, especially by the criminal organization the Grey wolves. |

I find it awfull....
Maybe Cypriots would reconsider the unification with the invaders...
Cypriots (Greek speaking Cypriots) has nothing to lose. They are 4-5 times wealthier and richer .....
I know it's not people's fault but then again...can you trust them? |

Cyprus belongs to the Cypriots, not to the Turks and not to the Greeks.
Therefore, I find it wrong. |

Actually its pretty ironic that they are using symbols steeped in Greek and Christian tradition as their "national symbols". LOL!! They stole those symbols from the Greeks to begin with. The ancient Greek colony Byzantium were the first to produce coins and banners with the crescent and star symbol to honor the moon-goddess Artemis/Hecate, who the inhabitants believed had saved the city from attacks. When he moved the new Roman capital to Byzantium, Constantine I kept the banner as the official Constantinople "flag" depicting the emblem of the city-state of Christian Constantinople (330 - 1453). When the city of Byzantion became the Christian Constantinople in 330 AD, the star and crescent of Artemis/Hecate emblems assumed the significance of an attribute of the Virgin Mary. It was the official flag of the city until the day the Turks attacked and over took the city, they saw all these banners hanging all over the city and took the emblems as their 'official' symbols. What is ironic is they and the rest of the Islamic world are using symbols that are part of Greek and Christian history and tradition. They might claim supposedly their ancestors and I don't know who else used these symbols too but no evidence of any other ancient people making the star and crescent into coins and banners and the official symbols of their city is found prior to the ones produced by the ancient Greek colony Byzantium. ;-) To date the Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem official church flag is a labarum of white with a church building with two towers and on either side of the arms, at the top, are the outline in black of a crescent moon facing center, and a star/sun with rays.

Also the flag depicting the dynastic Arms of the Cyprus branch of the Hellenic Komnenos [Comnenus, Comneno] family (c. 1184-1195), as used by the island's Governor Isaac Komnenos depicted the crescent and the star. So Christian Cyprus was using the symbols long before the Turks arrived. LOL!! Oh the irony of it.
