What became of those girls? |
During the 19th century in Anatolia many beautiful girls were stolen by the Turks. In the catastrophe of Smyrna there was a battalion -or something like this-, called Tsetes, who inter alia were distinguishing the pretty ones and taking them. Does anyone knows what they became of? Is there a letter, a document or something like this? Additional Details The first three suck.. |

If those beautiful women you speak of are Greek, I doubt Turks *stole* (?) them, for Greek women were not really the symbols of eminent female beauty within the Ottoman Empire, with all due respect of course, the Turks begged to differ. Even the Harems were not populated by Greeks but by mostly Slavic and Caucasian women. Again, neither these women were not *stolen*, whatever that means lol.
To answer your question, the Greek women in İzmir probably went away with American or Italian sailors, or, living up to the Greek reputation in Turkey, displayed their unrivaled free-style swimming in the Aegean sea, who knows? Well, folk songs where women throw themselves off a cliff does satisfy ones need to hear a dramatic story now and then, but overall, I find it pathetic to repeat it over and over again like a badly constructed fairy tale.
Still, lucky women they are, although clumsy Greek imperialism made them leave their homes, they have managed to save themselves and their families thanks to Turks, who were always generous in mercy. Their fate is very unlike the ones of Turkish women in Navarro, Triplets, Natalia, Petras and other countless places foul Ypsilanti and Kolokotronis step foot on, right? People turn their eyes away when it comes to what happened to the women in places that savage Greek mobs entered. (Oh but we can speak endlessly about Chios, that's allowed)
"...Το άλογό μου από τα τείχη έως τα σαράγια δεν επάτησε γη..." Kolokotronis.
Sure, a true hero he was.
Cortopha...: My answer contains facts while your question is a fruit of your own imagination. This question does not even make sense. (Who were these 'Anatolian women', how are you able to comment on the physical attributes of these women who lived many years ago, you are sure they were stolen on the other hand, for some reason, what has become of them is a mystery for you?) My answer is just too reasonable for some to handle.
Cortopha...:
What a touching video. Especially those thin faces that I can hardly look at, who needs documents when you have sad faces on a video? When I see videos like this, I know science and history are mere façades to hide the unpleasentness on this planet.
You still haven’t answered my question directed at the credibility of your claims. I have answered your question and just felt the need to add details concerning paralel lives that ended in different states. Death for the Turk and Life for the Greek. So I believe what I wrote is perfectly relevant, it’s not that I seek an opportunity to write something bad about Greeks.
You are wrong about the concubines and women employed for other purposes in the Saray, they again were not abducted or kidnapped, most came with their own will because of possible troubles they have at home. During the Circassian exile even middle class people could buy Circassian girls because their prices went down, these women were not kidnapped but they saw going to a rich house, treated well and acquiring skills in music, literature and various forms of art was better than perishing at a region where there were constant wars. Slave girls could 1) Go back (in many times escape) to the slave owner in a case of mistreatment b) Had a sort of ‘income’, their owners had to give these girls gifts from time to time c) the owners had to make sure that these girls were married off to eligible men when the time came. So it was hardly slavery in a sense of what you see in the movies with chained women being abused in every sense.
I did not comment on the reputation of Greek women, I said they were not famous for an extraordinary beauty or for any special skill. I repeat, there weren’t many Greek girls in the Saray, apart from the wives of distant Sultans who married Greek women for political reasons rather than romantic. |

I don't know about what happened in Anatolia but I know two stories of girls who were abducted by Turks during the Revolution, the one in Messolonghi and the other after the destruction of Chios. The first one killed herself, the other one lived with her abductor for years, bore him two sons and then left him, returned alone to Chios and remained there for the rest of her life. She used to tell her sons who visited her often and repeatedly asked her to go live with them: "You are my sons and I love you but there's too much blood between us". |

Well im not sure about Greece but the turks took Bulgarian women and persuaded them to take up Islam and live a life married to some guy with influence in the ottoman empire those who refused of course got killed i suppose the same thing happened to greeks.
PS Turks were uber savages back then and im surprised the rest of tEurope didn't notice it...it was like genocide for the countries they enslaved |

Corthophagus, I think you could try to start a carreer as a scripwriter in Hollywood...I am so amazed by your fertile imagination...
Oh,by the way, why is your avatar so colored? Maybe some Senegalese or Nigerian girls have been "stolen" by some Greek sailors ( after all, you are famous for your being successfull shipowners, right?)...Wow, I should write a script about it...Maybe I would even win an oscar... |

Are u mad for girls or beautiful girls stolen from greece? (damn they took beauty ones, we haven't any good one left .. damn .. damn ) just like u said so. ( joke of course )
Maybe something happen there at that period maybe not .. god sake why some people want to dig old graves like mad dogs?
You are talking about late 1800's, c'mon man .. in that period people was carry swords .. swords man .. for cut the opponents, If u want a see saw some violence against civilian women's u don't need to go to far away, just look at the bosnia and kosova ethnic cleanings doing by serbs ..
I'm so sure some Greek troops doing some crimes like you said so at Anatolia .. I've read many about those.
Point is u can't find kind of massacre histories at our books anymore, after 2k our government remove that kind of racist material from our books for clear mind next generations .. they already ready stories about last days of ottoman empire or WW I or our freedom war after WW I but u can't find any nationalist and / or racist line at our books.
Because past is past .. we can't go further with that kind of "hate" attitude .. look at future nor past.
and for Makrembolitissa .. horrible pictures u link us, as u know head cut not legal action anymore .. because forbidden by law & ethics
..but when we capture some terrorist we still take pictures for identify them. try this, a new one .. http://img167.imageshack.us/img167/3829/pkkleizm0.jpg .. group of terrorist ( PKK ) who carry U.S Weapons killed by Turkish Special Forces near at Iraq border line .. as u see .. when somebody try to hurt us, we will hurt back .. badly. |
