I have just been on a plain, and it's not as bad as you think. You are best off not bringing and liquids or gels, sharps or lighters. But you are allowed to bring electrical items such as I-pods, i brought mine.

In the UK at the moment you are allowed to carry into the cabin:

one piece of hand luggage of about 56x45x25cm dimensions (about the size of a laptop bag). If you bag is bigger, it will need to crunch down to this size. There are measuring boxes at the airports for testing this.

Through security you are not allowed to carry in stuff like:

standard things like explosive, weapons, acids, radioactives etc. as before.

sharp objects - scissors, knives, knitting needles, nail clippers, metal rulers etc.

Liquids which you have not purchased in the departure shopping areas. So drinks, shampoos, contact lens solution, shaving gels and foams are all covered. Vital medicines will need to be declared and examined - check with your airline. If you are travelling to the States, no liquids are allowing in hand luggage, whether bought at the airport or not.

In security you are allowed to take through other objects like laptops, cell phones etc. You will have to remove these from hand luggage for separate screening. You will also have to remove your shoes and outer jacket or coat for screening as well, so put all your metal items in you bag or jacket pockets before security. You will probably also have to go through a body search.

I can't think of much else but that should cover it for most people.

No go Gas,Petrol,Matches,Scissors,Tool kit,Any sharp object,Food, check with your travel agency for the full list.

All of those new restrictions in the U.K. do not apply for flights out of Greece.
Truly, you must check your particular airline for your particular flight.

I flew outta Belfast recently and it was stuff like liquids and that. It's not that you can't take stuff on the plane, its stuff that you cant take into the airport yourself. E.g: They'll take your perfume off you but when you go through customs, check in and go through to the next part of the airport you can buy perfume and take that onto the plane because it has been safely checked by the airport security and not some dangerous thing youve brought in yourself.
On the plane itself, just no sharp items like knives or corrosive acids or gases bla bla

ngiapapa
To make the long story short, avoid taking anything onboard as hand luggage except a book or your glasses.
For further information, contact either the Airport you are flying from or enter your carrier's site.

Have a nice trip!...

Your best bet would be to just pack all toiletries in luggage.
Do not carry on

Cell phones
portable CD Players
manicure tools
Just bring yourself on the airplane and that is it.
Also, some airlines have on their websites what they allow and do not allow to be carried on the airplane.

Right now with security better safe than sorry.

Call and ask the airline on which you will travel.
