What clothes I need to wear in February in Russia?

I'm going to Russia in February and I've heard the temperature can get down to -20C. What sort of coat, shoes and gloves etc do I need?
Will I be ok with walking shoes or do I need snow boots or something?

it depends on where in Russia you are going. a few years ago we went to Saint-Petersburg in January and yes, temp. was around -20. some sort of ski jacket would be ideal with warm jumper underneath. walking boots are fine with warm knitted socks. ;) well, warm scarf, hut and gloves of course. winter in Russia can be unpredictable, but normally february is the coldest month of the winter. Just make sure you are ready for the worst ;)

Bear fur hat, black trench coat, black leather gloves, baggy black pants, and tall black leather boots. Make sure your car has a remote starter because it will be a pain to clean off the snow from your car. Trust me I'm from New England, USA, we also have heavy snow fall.
:D

The three important items are a hat that covers your ears, gloves and a pair of water proof boots (with a decent grip)...

In what part of Russia you going? Russia is a great country.
In the south, will be already warm. In Murmansk, for example, will be very cold.

The average temperature in Moscow in February, - 5C.

It depends on where you are going to. If you go to Siberia or the North, buy a fur coat or any kind of warm winter coat & warm snow boots + a warm fur or wool hat & winter gloves. Just look at what people wear in winter in Alaska. If you are going to the South (like where I am living), a warm coat & some leather boots will be enough.

it depends where in Russia to go. if you go to the north like Moscow and St-Petersbourg you need a warm fur coat and two warm sweaters under the coat. try to find something with natural wool - it's much warmer. you need high boots of natural leather and fur inside. also you need a hat - better if it covers your ears, warm scarf and warm gloves. better if you buy a sheep-coat. it should be long enough - better if it reaches up to your high boots. i live in the south of russia, but still we wear the same clothes here like in Moscow or Siberia though it's much warmer than in Moscow or Siberia. still the point is not what to wear but HOW LONG TO STAY OUTSIDE. in the south you can stay outside longer than in the north. don't forget to move your legs, feet, arms and hands all the time. move your fingers and toes - just check if you can feel them. when you see that you lose the feeling of your fingers or toes then it's time to go to a warm place. still if your come to Russia and feel that your clothes are not warm enough you can easily buy something in Russia.

that is the coldest month of all to be there, wear several layers of light warm clothing with a coat over everything, wear knee socks, gloves, thick well soled grip tread boots, hat with ear flaps, or a very warm scarf
