split germany down the middle. whatever is west of that line thats splitting germany is western europe. a better way of thinking it is you take all the countries in europe that was not occupied by the USSR. those are the western european countries.

Dry Dreamer
Those countries west of the old iron curtain... i think

Usually these are non-slavic countires + some exclusions :).... I think right now it is not very important to devide countries into West and East .... early people said that West countries are true Europe and Easterns are half-europeans and something like that .. but it was politics ... this division is more political then geographical ... I think we should leave it in the past ... for example, who will say that Czech republic is less European then Portugal ??

Rotifer
Countries of Western Europe are the ones that Jovan mentioned: Portugal, Spain, France, UK, Ireland, Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg, and the ones he strangely missed out:

Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Liechtenstein, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, and probably Austria, Malta and Finland. Generally it means the countries that weren't Eastern block countries.

Countries of Western Europe are: Portugal, Spain, France, UK, Ireland, Netherlands, Belgium and Luxemburg.
