What country should I visit and hopefully move to?

Not trying to be at all rude but I'm getting a bit sick of living in the U.S. I'm tired of how people treat each other. Anyways, I need advice. I have the opportunity to visit a foreign country next year in college and I'd like to choose a country that I might choose to live in after college so that I can sort of geta feel for it. Anyways, I have five options that I'm interested in. They are Paris, London, Cardiff, Toronto, and Montreal. I'm more interested in the European countries if I'm being honest. Anyways, I'd like to know a bit about the way of life. I want to live somewhere a bit less fast-paced. My best friend is likely going to come with me and, being gay, he would probably appreciate a gay-friendly city and country in general. I'm not sure how the U.K. and France are about gay rights/marriage/etc. but that info would help. I'm not really sure what else I'd need to know.

I understand your concerns about the language barrier in France, however, I minor in French so I'd only be slightly worried about it. That is the main drawback of France I suppose because I do have an accent.

Garrison is right.

First it is not that easy for a US-citizen to emigrate to Europe. There is tons of red tape involved, mostly the sticky issue about money. If you are rich enough so that you don't need to work it is easy, but if you need to work to support yourself you'll need to jump through all the hoops of getting a work and residency permit.

The easiest way to a residency and work permit in Europe is to graduate from a European university. Therefore you might be forced to do masters at a European uni in order to make your dream come true.

Second you need to know that London and Paris are some of the most expensive cities in the whole world to live in. Londoners fly to NYC to shop for Christmas, 'cause even with the flight and the NYC hotel "it is so cheap there!". Go figure!

I don't think you quite understand how EXPENSIVE it is to live in Europe. You will have sticker shock the first time you buy a cup of espresso and a croissant for breakfast in Paris.

ALSO... how do you plan to live there... you can't work, you know...

Learn French BEFORE you go to France... don't wait until you get there to try to learn the language because nobody will try to help you.

London will be the best place because of the language if you go to France you are going to start all over again by learning french

Well if you're sick of how the US treats people, stride away from France, cause they are a bit snobby (especially towards Americans) in my experience. Have you considered Amsterdam (Netherlands)? Or how about Sweden, or maybe Italy? Italy can be both fast paced and slow. And these countries are pretty accepting I believe.

If your rich anywhere is Europe is fine. London has a class system and look down on everything from the way you hold a fork to the way you speak. ie your grammar "anyways". I have heard great things about Aussies Australia.

New Zealand.

If you're out of work you can always play a second in something like Xena or Lord of the Rings.

And they had that day of mourning over loosing a sporting event.

And everyone I've met from there has been incredible cool but anxious to get back.
