My dear friend Leprechaun, let me point out that American politics are not very well-liked even in America. :) Getting troops OUT of Iraq may be the issue that decides the next Presidential election.

And since most politicians were unsuccessful lawyers, it's hard to hold them in high regard. :P

Anyway, Ginger, your plans sound somewhat similar to my own, and my experience with Turks and Turkmen has been decidedly favorable. I haven't met a Turk yet who seemed unwilling to give me a chance.

Leprechaun
The thing is i don't think American politics are liked on anywhere on earth except America. But you will be fine as an individual.Especially as a bride here, you'll get respect and love from people.

Just avoid above answerers, what they say is nonsense. Only .::HighT... and Selena have real idea about it.

Just go for it!
The Turks have a lot more common sense than anybody else! Living in Turkey is the best thing you can do in these crazy times, the world is still normal there!
Good luck and all the best to you!

Yeap,
its one thing that american politicans are not liked but as an indivual you will see that you will be treated with respect.
turkish people are helpful especially to foreigners, even if you dont speak any turkish and they dont speak any english, you will see how they will try to communicate with you and how hard they will try to help you.

dont worry nothings gonna happen because you are american.

Go for it

You'll not only earn respect but also loyalty when you marry a True Turkish Citizen

Why do you not ask this question to your future husband? If you think he won't be honest why are you marrying him then? Alternatively you can just go and visit Turkey -visit the city where you'll be living- to have an opinion.

Also do not listen to those idiots above, they know nothing about Turkey whatsoever. I don't know which of the things they've said I should start correcting. Moronic media dummies.

Addition:The first answerer is not Turkish but an Armenian.

Mr. Bobo
I debated answering your question for several reasons first of all I may be in your situation someday.

So it does hit close to home.

Now don't get me wrong, but what do you mean "What do Turks think of Americans"?

What do you think of Turks, and why are you going to marry one? Well, I would venture to guess that he is the love of your life. So ethnicity doesn't matter. Politics doesn't matter. Religion is what you make it. So focus on the relationship and make it the best thing you can make it, and everything else will fall into place.

Think of it like this, what if you were going to the live in the United States. Do you think your neighbors your friends would really care of his ethnicity, as long as they saw you as a kind and loving couple.

You have a whole life ahead of you with many trials and tribulations.

I have spent much time in Turkey, and have found them to be some of the best times I have ever had. Ihave traveled all over this rock we call Earth, and have never found a more exciting and respectful pace as the country of Turkey and its people.

So to all my friends in the Turkish section, Why do you think I hang around here so much, I miss you all.

P.S. and of course to my greek friend that never checks in any more "Πώς είσαι" and "Η Ελλάδα είναι μια υπέροχη χώρα"

P.S.S. Congratulations and "iyi şanslar!"

Fordman, That is like saying that in America, we all wear cowboy hats and boots and blue jeans and run around saying "howdy" all the time.

LOL, give me a break

pass the amunition
thers alot of tension between turkish peeps and americans, we labled them as a genocide country, and there was a suicide bombing there, but u should know u live there!!
most of my teachers are turkish and there pretty cool, though

Check out the laws in his country especially with respect to custody of children and rights of wives. Educate yourself on that asap. You want to make sure that if things fail that you don't lose your children and can get back to the US with them. You never know what will happen and it good to keep options open and be educated about laws of other countries. People don't expect things to go wrong but when there is a difference like there is between the two cultures and I am guessing two religions, this puts extra strain on relationships.

There's been a big push in Muslim countries to put Sharia first and that means basically when there is a conflict the "better" ie Muslim way prevails. Christians in Egypt are having a very difficult time with this. This includes a deadbeat dad who took his children back from their Christian mother after he married a muslim and skipped out on his first family and children being denied an education.

I can't really say for sure. I was only there for several days and was close to an Air Force base. They were very strict, I know that. They didn't really have a lot to say. I don't know if they couldn't speak English or they didn't want to. I spent some time at the police station in Ismir, but that was over 30 years ago.

Some of the Air Force guys I spoke with, said that they liked being stationed there. I couldn't believe all of the old 1955-1957 Chevys that were on the road. This was in 1973.

Check it out before you commit. The women that I saw were wearing black robe/dresses and had veils across their faces.
Do some more research on the web.
