What do Turks think of our American President, Barack Obama, during his visit to Turkey? :]?

I'm an American, and we had a lot of media coverage of our president visiting your nation ))

I know that the previous president, George W. Bush, was very unpopular in Turkey for the Iraq War, but of course Obama is very popular worldwide.

As a Turk, I was wondering if you could tell me what you *personally* think of Mr. Obama and his visit to Turkey, as well as the public opinion of Obama in your country )))

Teşekkürler ederim!

I'm sorry but I have to correct something
"Teşekkürler ederim" is wrong, it is like saying "Thanks you"
It is either "Teşekkürler" which is "Thanks"
or
"Teşekkür ederim" which is "Thank you"
I'm a Turkish grammar freak : )

As you can easily guess, there is a great difference between how we perceive Obama and Bush. I personally think Obama is very sympathetic, down to earth and "normal". However we Turkish people are quite realistic when it comes to international relations and politics. We know that image is important but politics do not rely solely on the images of politicians. Turkish people prefer to wait and see before jumping into conclusions or before supporting somebody. So he doesn't have a rock star status in Turkey. At least not yet.

I consider his visit to Turkey as a great honor.

I liked his speech to the Turkish parliament:

Bush administration helped religious government to take the power. Turkey turned in an Islamic state with this generosity. The only word that I wanted to hear from Obama was 'Secular' during his visit. And he did it. So I am really happy with that.

USA should invades Turkiye, to the Greeks, Armenians and Kurds can recover their lands in Anatolya

and, send the Turks where they lived 1.500 years ago... MONGOLIA!!!

Bleda The Mad
I don't like Obama a lot. He is in favor of so called Armenian Genocide. And he is trying to make Armenia-Turkey border opened.

As for Obama. I don't think that he will be a good president for USA. I was watching elections and something i saw really shocked me. A black man wearing "Danger. Educated black man". And when i see people voting for Obama just because he is black,I don't get it...

He gives all countries roses. I think that Obama won't be able to control the balance. Bush could not either.

Recently another guy asked a question just like that...
same type of sick logic, same type of stupid deduction, same type of prejudice and all..
That asker too was kinda missing something in the head, you know
(So much of a resemblance that I could swear it was YOU under another name)

A clever friend of ours gave just the right answer to that question and the members of the community voted it for the BEST ANSWER.

I guess THAT answer goes for your question too
Just check the link below and see it for yourself
