What do YOU do for the environment?Do you worry at all about the future of the planet? |
I want the answers of Greek people, because I believe that we are one of the most uncoscionable people of Europeans. Especially the older ones, they don't understand that if we continue in this way, there will not be left any hospitable place for our children to live... Additional Details asimenia, thanks for your answer, but this is exactly what I am saying; the older people are these who especially don't care... |

What about establishing court procedures every year against hunting? In fact, I am in a continuous conflict with the Greek State about this issue. And I will never give up. |

I very much do. I recycle everything I can, from plastics and paper to glass, batteries etc. I use public means of transport and prefer going on foot whenever I can, I don't turn the lights on and leave them on for no purpose and I try to consume less water. I am especially worried for the latter and I would suggest that all people should consume water with more consideration. |

yes, it is true..We are still behind concerning the repsect to the environment, it is lack of education. In the past i heard there were programs at schools, now i dont think so..And the nature for many citizens, it is jsut the place where they ll eat and they ll have fun on sunday, leaving their all their litter...Sad.... |

we actually are very concious about the environment in my family and we have been recycling for years, using rechargable batteries and do our best to save power...
unfortunatelly, when I got my first job for a civil engineer, we were throwing away tons of paper and I freaked out!!!I tried to get everyone into recycling but after a year only a couple of people use my recycling bin every once in a while...I guess that's something... |

Sure I do!
I boycott all products coming from animals purely for decoration i.e fur, mink crocodile, skin, zebra skin etc
In some parts of Africa some ''calling'' (professional hunting) of animals is allowed in order for the ecosystem to retain its balance and not to overpopulate so that all perish. It sounds cruel but is necessary and well controlled by conservationists.
I also do all the normal recycling of houshold goods.
I must admit to feeling despondent when i see the careless way some youth treat their surroundings.
In China where I go often you only see blue sky for about 2 day/year and only after a heavy thunderstorm! The rest of the year all you see is pollution and grey skies!
As individuals we can only do so much.We need government involvement to make a real difference otherwise we are damning generations to come with an unhealthy Earth. |

I use CFL lights, Drive a little as possible, and try to use natural foods and cloths. But remember the earth goes through periodic warming and cooling cycles and only mankind is arrogant enough to think you can control Mother Nature. Man like the dinosaurs will be extinct long before the planet dies. |

I whine about it. The reason being, because the government and municipalities don't really listen to our demands and complaints, what we say become only whinings. I can't even separate material that can be recycled from my garbage
because even if I do, the garbage trucks will put them all back together.
Stupid municipality. |

I put things in for anakiklosi. Unfortunately I'm not sure that it all goes where it's supposed to. There was a photo in a local paper of the rubbish collectors putting it all in with the rubbish. Very disheartening. My mother-in-law thinks I'm crazy for bothering!
We also have an artificial Christmas tree now. I never did like chopping one down every year. |

I am not Greek (so hopefully I am still allowed to answer)
I live in Greece - we were given recycle bottle and plastic bags in order to fill and take to the blue bins -- for recycling. Unfortunately these bins are now filled with everyday household rubbish.
Do you think older people really understand or care? I doubt that a lot do.
Maybe if teachers spent time educating the children on basic things like - never leaving rubbish on the beach or never throwing plastic water bottles on the side of the road - then proceed onto recycling from there - however it's doubtful that teachers would be able to do this as I'm sure they are guilty of litter throwing themselves!
My mum taught us at a very early age to NEVER drop litter - I remember her bag being full of bus tickets etc. This has stayed with me and I passed it onto my kids (hence my pockets/bag get filled with sweet papers) it's not a big step for us to enter the world of recycling. But for people who think nothing of dropping litter etc - it's not an easy step to recycle or think about enviroment!

Artemis - I believe the trees are chopped at the top - not uprooted so it's not as bad as you think to have a real tree.

I hope you do manage to stop hunting - my husband will hate me for this - he's a hunter and so are most of the male population in our town ... not only do I hate to see the birds being hunted - I also hate the fact that every household owns a gun! |
