backpacking is a great idea, especially in Europe where everything is so close and stopping overnight at a hostel is very easy! I remember stopping over a VERY decent hostel in Paris, 2 min from Louvre, for just 30$ per night!

from all the trips I've made there, 3 most important advices:
1. take any medicine you may need - at european pharmacies you won't get anything but paracetamol and aspirin without doctor's prescription
2. have a plan in mind of where you'd like to go. One of the coolest ways to travel accross Europe is night buses (check Eurolines site - comfortable buses and very decent pricing). NEVER take any bus tours though as you risk missing a country or two during afternoon nap :) Planning is important just because there are so many interesting and beautiful things that you risk simply getting lost and spending your time... frustrated
3. have small dictionaries, tour books and phrases books for all languages you're planning to cross! Although english is a universal language, nothing is appreciated more than effort to speak in local one! Especially needed in France, Italy, Spain. Often after you make a first effort at speaking local language, people switch to english (if they know it of course), but if you speak english right away with a french, even if the french knows english you won't get a word in response!

Also, if what you're looking for is not basic tourist visit but more a cultural exploration, I would advice to stick to regions and not the capitals

Good luck!

Two years? the world spins and spins dude, don't worry about that yet until comes, through this time too many things can happen.

So, just be realistic and begin to think of it when you'll at the door of that trip.

you will need to make sure you can communicate with them. then you would probably need to bring your basic supplies and im am not for sure on what else. you will need to get some european money. you will need to know the laws and how different guestures can be an insult or a compliment

hope that helps you

Europe is too complex to be contained in a few words of advice. Try reading at least one book. Find out how many different countries and language groups it involves.
And, most important, regardless of the advice from mushipees, do not bring worm clothing. The worms in Europe have survived for millenia without clothing of any kind.
Actually, they probably wouldn't even thank you for it!

Well, it all depends on which country you go to. I'm from Spain, and I can tell you that it's the best place and beautiful!! If you go to the North bring warm clothes, if you go to the South, bring summer clothes.

Best place to go. Anything you do is ok. Better places are near Mediterranean. Best to travel in the trains. Girls are sweet and grateful.

When going to certian counrties find out where to and where not to drink the water the best thing to do is bring bottled water and only eat certian foods.

if you're backpacking and you want to keep your trip low cost, you'll probably want to stay in hostels and cheap hotels. if you're planning on going over the summer, pack mostly shorts and tshirts, and maybe one pair of pants and a sweatshirt. also, there are special train passes you can buy so you don't have to buy train tickets on most lines. some of my favorite places are wiesbaden germany, cinque terre in italy, freiburg germany, strasbourg frnace, prague, and amsterdam.
