I have been over there twice and when we had dinner we had several choices. Water is the most popular beverage but in Russia carbonated water is very popular.
We also had hot tea quite often. But there are other drinks available. Soft drinks, fruit juice and anything else you may enjoy.
Vodka and wine was at the table during the holiday and large family diners. |

Nothing special. Tea is quite popular. And no, we don't drink vodka all day long. We have better things to do. |

I am Russian, so here is a "dear diary" of about 40 years of personal experience, so do listen and learn.
Russian drink a lot of hot tea, preferably Indian. They often bake "pirogi" or cakes to go with it. Or just put some fruit or berry jam on a piece of bread.
Of course, Russians drink a lot of alcohol. But it is the way they drink it. Living here, in the USA, I realised that Americans do not know how to drink vodka, for example..
First of all you ALWAYS drink vodka with a lot of food. Preferably at a several course dinner with a lot of meat.
And you NEVER drink vodka with ice or orange juice. The alcohol will go through your stomach straight into your blood and you will get a huge hang over in the morning.
Here is the secret - before you will start drinking any alcohol eat a piece of bread with butter, it will help you to stay sober longer, so you will enjoy watching your friends making fools of themselves :)
Glad to be of service. |

I heard that anything you can buy in the rest of the world you can also buy there. I am curious why you are thinking that travelling there means you are going to miss out on the regularly marketed products such as softdrinks, coffee, wine, alcoholic beverage, chocolate.....
If you have been invited to stay in one of their homes, then I suggest to just be prepared to be surprised. |

Tea, coffee, fruit juice, kvas (a fermented drink made from bread), anything with alcohol. Basically anything you drink anywhere else in the world. |

They drink whatever people from other countries drink.
They like tea a lot.
And yes, they like alcohol.
Short fact: 1 out of 6 Russians is an alcoholic. |

Vodka, peevo (beer) and assorted soft drinks like Coke and Sprite. I've never seen Dr Pepper there after 12 trips! If you drink water there, only drink bottled water. They like carbonated mineral water.........hard to brush your teeth with though. Tea is something everyone drinks including small children. |

We in Russia love tea (not ice tea!!!!) with something - jam, honey and lemon, cookies and sweets (anything!) - not just plain tea. We like all kinds of juices (a lot of people favor tomato juice but many also like multifruit, apple or orange, pomegranate), many people like good coffee (real in beans or instant). Mineral water is the healthy choice of many nowadays - we do not drink tap water (unless it's been boiled first).
As for alcohol - well, you name it - we drink it (you do not know some name - we still drink that too ;)). Women mostly prefer wine and champagne, and liqueurs. Men often go for vodka, cognac, beer, and various mixes they make (like vodka mixed with beer is called a "boilermaker") |
