In 1934 Atatürk wrote a tribute to the ANZACs killed at Gallipoli:

"Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives... You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side now here in this country of ours... you, the mothers, who sent their sons from faraway countries wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land. They have become our sons as well."

I don't know anybody who could say it better...

It's a very important and meaningful day for both countries and world peace. Both countries had pain but it was the start of peace.

As Ataturk said for anzacs: "Mothers, wipe your tears. After they died in this country, they also became our children."

I also agree with winztin.

It is good to remember those who have fallen and it is even better to not forget how the Brits have exploited other nations to fight their wars, if we remember this, it will not happen again.

Being an Australian boy living in turkey ..it means alot to me . I remember with pride the ANZAC soldiers who fought so valiantly despite being sent to a war they shouldnt have had to take part in .. and also the turkish soldiers also for fighting so bravely in defending their homeland which i have also grown attached to . The way both of these sets of soldiers fought was so courageous and this is why there was and is such a respect between Turkey and the Anzac nations..The troops who fought at galipoli deserve to be honored and remembered with the utmost of respect due to their bravery ..and the role they played in the forging of 3 proud countries.

Anzac Day in my eyes is a symbol of great respect,Friend ship between the Republic of Turkey & the Anzac nations.

The Anzac troops are worth honoring they where some of the one of the bravest soldiers if not bravest.

Respect to all the dead Anzac and Turkish troops.

Its very important to all countries involved eg Australia, New Zealand and Turkey.
For the ANZAC countries it was the beginning of our nationhood when we realised we were not mother england anymore but our own countries ( and raised some issues with England's incompetence).

It commemorates the courage of all 3 countries in the face of terrible odds...the ANZACS being sent to the wrong places, no support etc and the Turks for defending their country despite the onslaught.

Now ANZAC day is in general a commemorates all who went to war for our country and defended it and a reflection of bravery.

fenerli
It is when Austrailians go to Turkey to honor their ancestors who fought during the war.

That was great since Anzac day shows to all planet what respect is.

There is no war on this planet , enemyhood turns to frienship. Do you know why ? Coes Anzak's figted with their honor and they were brave as well as Turk soldiers. Thats why we still respect them .

Totally Blunt
In addition to what Wintzin said, yesterday's Great Britain is today's USA, Russia and other power wanna-bes. I refuse to allow my nation to be their pawns.

BEING AN AUSSIE i can tell you anzac day is not just about GALLIPOLI..if you ever witness the marches here in australia especially sydney.they can go on for hours.HONOURING all the WARS fought by aussies...of course gallipoli was a devestating war..and althoguth it showed extreme courage and bravery.against all the odds trying to go up that hill and beign shot at like a side show prize was to say heroic indeed but so dumb ..military polemicaly speaking..,but to borrow blunt,s quote ..thats what happends when u become the pawn of england... kitchner didnt want to waste his shells on the attack. but it was ok to waste new zeland and australian troops..if kitchener fired on turkey the out come would have been quiet diffrent for turkey today.but history is what decisions are all about so we cant change what happedn but only look back on the stupididy of it all and hnour and respect all those who have fallen....
